Introducing The Black Girls Of Country Sister Group “The BoykinZ”

Country music has been having a cultural shake up that some might consider to be a “Black Renaissance” and The BoykinZ are throwing their cowgirl hats into the ring. Anale, Kylan, Nytere and Alona‘s love for the south, Atlanta to be specific, is a direct reflection of the love and passion they pour into their music. We sat down with them to learn about their love for all things country and what to expect from them in 2025!

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

Even though you are four sisters, what made you all want to start a group together?

Growing up, we were always running around the house, dancing, performing, and singing together. We probably drove our parents crazy, but they thought we had something special, so they started teaching us how to harmonize and write songs. Every summer, we participated in their children’s entertainment camp, and it was that continued exposure to the arts that shaped our decision to pursue music together as a group and share our harmonies with the world.

How do your Atlanta roots influence your music?

Our Atlanta roots have absolutely shaped our sound and style! Growing up in the suburbs, we listened to all types of music and found ourselves particularly drawn to the storytelling and heartfelt melodies of country. We loved the artists we heard on the radio like Dolly Parton, Brooks & Dunn, Shania Twain, The Chicks and The Judds, and groups like TLC, Destiny’s Child, and OutKast. Atlanta provides such a unique fusion of diverse influences, allowing for our unique appreciation for country, pop, R&B, hip-hop – all of which makes up our sound.

Your sound is a blend of various genres from country, rock, hip-hop, and soul. How do you all manage to create music around these vastly different sounds?

We let our passion for all types of music guide us. We draw inspiration from country, rock, hip-hop, and soul, and it shows up naturally in our music.

What is one quality each of you have that our supporters might not know about?

Each of us brings something different to the table:

  • Kylan (23) – The group’s Mama Bear and master choreographer
  • Anale (21) – Fashionista and the group’s stylist
  • Nytere (20) – Talented guitarist with a love for rhyming and rapping
  • Alona (17) – The group’s Soprano, anime aficionado and a wicked gamer

Your recently released a new song and visual, “Fell in Love with a Cowboy,” talk to us about the inspiration and process of creating this song and music video?

Fell in Love with a Cowboy” is our love letter to the ideal man – and for us, that’s the quintessential cowboy. This song captures the essence of falling for someone who embodies that classic cowboy spirit. We’re so grateful to have collaborated with Nashville songwriter and producer Nathan Chapman who truly understood our vision and helped bring this song to life. The music video complements the song perfectly, visually representing the love and admiration we have for our dream “cowboys.”

For anyone who’s never heard a song from “The BoykinZ”, what’s the first one you’re playing them and why?

Fell in Love with a Cowboy” is the perfect introduction as it showcases our unique blend of country, pop, and R&B – our signature sound.

What can we expect from you all in 2025?

Next year will be big for us! We’re releasing new music with our first EP on Quality Control Music, and we’re hitting the road with a slate of to-be-announced live shows. We can’t wait to connect with fans face-to-face and continue making music we love.
