UPDATE: Dr. Luke’s People Say Sony Isn’t Dropping Him Over Kesha

After weeks of outcry from the public and celebrities alike, reports emerged that Sony was dropping Dr. Luke after his contract expires this year — but now, Dr. Luke’s attorneys say that’s not true.

The Wrap broke the news of Dr. Luke’s alleged firing first. An inside source at Sony had this to say:

“There is no contest. Kesha has no case in regards to her contract but they can’t afford the Adeles of the world out in the streets calling the label unsupportive,” one individual familiar with upper management’s thinking told TheWrap. “The fact that this hasn’t already been taken care of with Luke is confusing, especially for people in the building.”

Translation: even though Kesha probably won’t ever prevail over Dr. Luke or Sony in court, Sony can’t take the embarrassment that comes from everyone in the public speaking out against them and Dr. Luke.

But now, Dr. Luke’s attorneys have told the LA Times that the report’s just untrue. From the LA Times:

“This is not true. Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony. His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony and this has never come up,” the producer’s attorney, Christine Lepera, said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

Kesha has yet to respond.

In late February, she posted to Instagram about the situation, and last week, she made a tearful public speech where she touched on it, too. Lorde, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Kelly Clarkson are just a few of the celebs who spoke out in support of her over the past few weeks.

This post was updated with info from Dr. Luke’s attorneys at 8:40 a.m. on March 10.
