Ross Butler thinks dinner for the first date is too cliché (he’s probably right)

You most likely recognize Ross Butler from hit TV shows such as 13 Reasons WhyRiverdale (which he had to step away from due to the former being such a hit), Teen Wolf, and multiple Disney Channel TV shows.

If you don’t recognize him, you haven’t been paying attention.

On top of all of that, Ross has recently signed on to the new DC movie, Shazam!. The movie is set to be a hit, and we’re so excited to catch Ross in it in 2019.

Well, Ross Butler is Galore’s newest December Crush, and it’s pretty obvious why. We sat down with Ross to discuss his ideal first date, his celebrity crush, 13 Reasons Why fan fiction, and more.

Check out the exclusive interview and photoshoot below to get to know him more!

Tell us more about your character from 13 Reasons Why, and would you be friends with him in real life?

When I was in high school, I would probably be more acquaintances with Zach, rather than friends. He’s a nice guy who is kind of friends with everyone from most social circles, but he spends the majority of his time with the jock crowd, which I was not a part of in high school.

What is your next role?

My next role is actually a secret but it will be in the new DC movie, Shazam!. Guess you’ll just have to watch it when it comes out.

Favorite movie of all time?

My two favorite movies (tied for first) are Gladiator and Forrest Gump for very different reasons. Gladiator is simply the ultimate story of revenge and seeking out ones own justice.

Forrest Gump is one of my favorite love stories that spans multiple decades and uses the politics and music and culture of those decades as a back drop. If either movie came on the TV, I could not resist watching until it was finished.

What is your ideal first date?

There isn’t a mold for my ideal first date, it really depends on the person. Before going on a date, I like to get a feel for who she is and how we connect, whether it be movies, or hiking, or art, and then decide from there what we do.

I don’t like dinner dates as a starter. Partially because it’s so cliche, but mostly because it’s a lot of pressure to have to keep a one on one conversation going for that long. If after the first date I find that she and I stimulate each other mentally, then the dinner date seems less daunting.

Favorite color?

I never know how to answer this question, and it seems like I only have my prepared answer from when I was 5. I like green. I don’t know if its an arbitrary decision of if I have some psychological inclination to liking green.

My birthstone is emerald, coincidentally. But other than that, I like to wear a lot of black and grey? Does that count for something?

Favorite food?

Sushi, pizza, ramen, and steak, medium rare – just straight up, no frills.

Craziest thing you have ever read about yourself?

Some of the 13 Reasons Why fan fiction is pretty intense. I’ll leave it at that.

6 things you can’t live without?

Food, Water, Oxygen, Shelter, The Primal Instinct to Survive, and dogs.

Boxers or briefs?

Boxers.

What song are you playing on repeat at the moment?

“Use Me,” by Bill Withers. Honorable Mention  The King of Wishful Thinking by Go West. The message of the two songs are very different – I’m an emotional wreck.

Biggest girl crush?

Natalie Portman. Always.

What is your life motto?

Life is too short to do a half-assed job.

What do you look for in a girlfriend?

She needs to be creative in one way or another. Doesn’t need to be in acting or entertainment necessarily, but someone who thinks outside the box and doesn’t adhere to the predetermined expectations of whatever her career is. On a deeper level, she has to be able to curious.

I am always thinking about the reasons why things are the way they are, why are we drawn to certain stories and music, why we act the way we do. It’s a big plus for me if she also thinks on that wavelength, or at least tolerates or contributes to my seemingly random tangents.

What can we expect in 2019?

Season 3 of 13 Reasons Why and Shazam! for now.
