This Woman Received 600 Apologies For Being Publicly Masturbated At In India
Roughly once month ago, 26-year-old British travel blogger Lucy Hemmings had an experience in India that she’ll never forget.
One day while Lucy was waiting for the bus in Mumbai “ the local guy that I had paid no particular attention to moved closer. From the corner of my eye, to my horror, I realized that he had pulled out his penis and was masturbating, staring intently at me. I felt sick.”
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened to Hemmings, but now, as a slightly older and wiser woman, she couldn’t laugh it off anymore. In fact, she was pretty f-ckin angry. She felt like that “Mumbai pervert” had robbed her of her “adventurous and curious nature” and even made her wonder if her love of Indian culture was only the result of a pair of rose-colored glasses.
Last week, Lucy’s story was picked up by popular Indian website ScoopWhoop and now hundreds of Indians are sending Hemmings apologies on behalf of the anonymous wanker.
According to a statement she gave for Cosmopolitan, although Lucy “never asked for an apology…the show of support has been truly humbling. Across my social media networks I’ve received upwards of 600 messages – and they are still coming in.”
While some websites are asking why it took a white non-Indian female reporting sexual assault to elicit hundreds of responses from Indian men, I think we can all agree that when it comes to a country where a woman gets raped every 20 minutes, no matter what the source, a little spotlight is good news.
