Premiere: TVOD Shares “Car Wreck” Single + Video

Brooklyn-based rockers TVOD stand out with emotional, sometimes juvenile lyrics, paired with driving, catchy songs that never fail to get a crowd moving/moshing. Influenced by post-punk, egg punk and krautrock, TVOD effortlessly weave musical genres in a way that comes off seamlessly. “More than anything, their sound is engineered to make you move” (Creem Magazine).

The brainchild of singer-songwriter Tyler Wright, the project draws from personal and external inspirations like the nightlife/music scene, heartaches, World War II, the untimely death of a beloved pet fish, and so on. TVOD’s vivid storytelling paints a gritty tongue-in-cheek picture of being a D.I.Y. artist grinding it out in NYC, complete with fabled tales about the degenerate lifestyle and all the good and the bad that comes with it.

TVOD gear up for their transatlantic trip to Les Trans Musicales (Rennes, FR) with the release of “Car Wreck”. Scheduled for December 3rd, 2024, this new track from the latest Mothland signees is the whole works: a krautrock-esque bassline and backbeat, fuzzed-out guitar licks, psychedelic synthesizer effects, as well as an absolute earworm of a melody in support of poignant lyrics about being reckless and embracing it. RIYL: Viagra Boys, Fountains D.C., Parquet Courts.

TVOD on the track, “Crash course derby with chronic guitar solos. You’ve always been crazy. This is just the first chance you’ve ever had to really express yourself. Félix Bélisle and Samuel Gemme co-produced the song. We were looking for somewhere to record and nothing was really speaking to us, until we heard La Sécurité’s debut, which they produced at Gamma Recording Studio in Montréal. We recorded over a couple trips from Brooklyn to Montréal, and slept on the floor at Mothland’s office and at the apartment of Turbo Haüs.”

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

What is the story behind the lyrics of “Car Wreck”?

Wrote it while jamming with the band in our practice space and the lyrics are about comparing my life to a metaphorical car wreck. It can be a fun fast ride, but you can’t really look away from the crazy accidents and disasters.

How does this project set the stage for your future work? Are there any new directions you’re excited to explore?

It has some samples in it and a big guitar solo that both of which we rarely use and often like to stay away from. We really like jamming on it and very rarely play the same riff live during the breakdowns.

You’ve been compared to bands like Viagra Boys, Fountains D.C., and Parquet Courts. Which artists have influenced you the most?

Those bands suck. lol JK they are all really sick and we definitely have them on repeat in the van. As a band we have a really diverse range of musical tastes. We listen to everything from like old country to death metal.  A lot of things bounce around in the speakers.
