NYFW SS 24 Recap | Kim Shui, Dion Lee, AREA + more!
From front row to backstage, we round up our favorite moments from NYFW.
1. Dion Lee
Dion Lee’s Collection hit a home run this season – Classics with a twist. Holographic highlighter? Yes! Hardwear detail? Yes! And of course, Dion gave us a signature boot in multiple colors for spring. The pieces that caught my eye ranged from super wearable to heavy editorial and experimental (did you see the Timberland boot-inspired corset top?!).
2. Private Policy NY
Designers Siying Qu and Haoran Li of Private Policy took inspiration from Aquatic life “We were really inspired by the people who try to save the reefs in the sea, and we used inspiration from that,” said Qu. Private Policy’s sustainable approach didn’t cause the duo to abandon their core roots: Sequins, Recyclable Denim, crop tops, and floor-length coats.
3. Kim Shui
A lot of my close friends love and wear Kim Shui’s clothes, she designs for women who like to take risks but also feel super confident. Kim’s SS 24 Collection was filled with her staple silhouettes but with a twist. Kim re-created her version of Italy at Manhattan’s oldest Italian restaurant, Barbetta. “I chose this space because of my Italian upbringing, to have that and have the clothes in the setting, and to re-create my version of Italy that I had in my mind,” said Shui.
4. Palomo Spain
Designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo returned to New York, “We always end up doing a show in New York in like a white cube or something that doesn’t feel very Palomo,” the designer noted at a preview. Palomo blended Masculine and Feminine with his latest collection. Lace, Rose detail accessories, and extravagant headpieces seemed to be the show’s highlights.
5. AREA
For F/W 23 AREA showcased their latest collection at the Williams Savings Bank in Brooklyn, NY. From the location to the haunting music, AREA’s FW 23/Couture Collection was one of (if not) my favorite collections this season. Diamond studded details on embellished skirts, faux-fur cropped jackets and floor-length coats stole the show. AREA’s star-studded front-row attendees included singer Kali Uchis, artist Saweetie, Jordyn, and Jodie Woods as well as The Clermont Twins. Did you see Saweetie at the MTV VMA’s wearing the purple sequin dress? with the Flintstone bone detail from this collection? So good! what a red carpet moment.
