Of Course Vivian Wilson Was Born to Disobey

Desigual hands its Fall/Winter 2026 campaign to fashion’s favorite professional dissenter — and pairs her with the one thing she has absolutely no interest in becoming: a perfect robot.

Some casting decisions require an explanation. Others make so much sense that you wonder why nobody thought of them sooner.

Vivian Wilson for Desigual’s “Born to Disobey”? Yeah. No notes.

For Fall/Winter 2026, Desigual is taking its longstanding obsession with individuality somewhere particularly timely. The Spanish label tapped Wilson to front Born to Disobey, its newest campaign under the Dress to Disrupt platform, placing one of fashion’s most unapologetically outspoken new faces opposite DESI 84 — a robot engineered to be, essentially, perfect.

You can probably guess which one we’re rooting for.

The accompanying fashion film plays with a very 2026 anxiety: what happens when everything around us becomes optimized, automated and increasingly engineered to behave exactly as expected?

Vivian’s answer is apparently: don’t.

Instead of staging some dramatic human-versus-machine battle, the campaign lets her do something much more fun. She simply refuses to play along, putting DESI 84 into situations it wasn’t designed to handle and exposing the limits of all that calculated perfection. Desigual describes the idea as choosing authenticity, irony and freedom over conformity.

And honestly? A little disobedience looks fabulous on her.

HUMAN ERROR, BUT MAKE IT FASHION

The images lean hard into the contrast. Vivian is expressive, unpredictable and unmistakably human; DESI 84 is controlled and calculated. It’s flesh versus hardware, personality versus programming, and perhaps most importantly for us, personal style versus the algorithm.

The concept becomes even more interesting considering Wilson’s own thoughts about artificial intelligence. Speaking about the campaign, she criticized AI’s impact on creative jobs and argued that art fundamentally requires human emotion and intention.

Suddenly, putting her next to a robot isn’t just a cute campaign gimmick.

It’s shade with a production budget.

And Wilson’s relationship with Desigual feels surprisingly natural. She told PEOPLE that she was attracted to the brand’s vibrant, slightly maximalist approach and its willingness to be ambitious with creative ideas.

If minimalism has been begging everyone to whisper for the past decade, Desigual and Vivian appear perfectly happy being the girls talking too loudly at the other end of the restaurant.

Thank God.

DRESS TO DISRUPT

Of course, you can’t disobey properly without something fabulous to wear.

The Fall/Winter collection carries the campaign’s attitude into the clothes with new denim constructions, animal prints, asymmetrical knits, statement outerwear and plenty of pieces that aren’t exactly interested in disappearing into your wardrobe. There’s even a Born to Disobey tee for anyone who would prefer their rebellion spelled out. The current collection also stretches into faux-fur bags, embroidered pieces, heeled boots and gloriously unnecessary heart-chain accessories.

Which brings us back to Vivian.

Her fashion ascent has been fascinating precisely because she doesn’t seem particularly interested in sanding herself down for the industry. After becoming a major internet personality and Teen Vogue cover star, Wilson moved further into fashion, eventually landing on runways including Gucci. Now Desigual isn’t asking her to become some immaculate, personality-free campaign girl.

They’re selling the personality.

Even her approach to getting dressed fits the message. Wilson has encouraged people to alter and personalize clothing they already own rather than endlessly consume — cropping old pieces, adding pins and memorabilia or finding unexpected ways to wear what is already sitting in the closet.

In other words: the algorithm can keep its perfectly coordinated aesthetic.

Vivian would rather make her own.

And maybe that’s the most interesting proposition Desigual could make right now. In a fashion landscape increasingly shaped by optimization — optimized feeds, optimized faces, optimized aesthetics and now machines capable of generating an endless approximation of taste — being a little difficult might actually be the chicest thing left.

Born to obey?

Couldn’t be us.
