Lovie Simone’s Character In “Forever” Desires To Be Loved And Seen For Who She Is

When it comes to being young, hot and in Hollywood, there’s no way you’ve never heard of Lovie Simone. Many of us watched her grow up over the years, from all the movies and tv shows she’s been apart of, but nothing has topped her latest role as Keisha on the new Netflix series “Forever“. With an almost 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating and all the takes from social media, it doesn’t take much to realize Lovie Simone is on track to be one of the biggest actresses of her time. We sat down with her to learn all about her latest role, her goals for the future and everything in between!

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

How did you get your start in Hollywood? Tell us your story.

I always wanted to be on the screen. After joining an acting program at age 9 I found a manager and began auditioning for commercials! My first being JC Penney haha. Always had faith in myself!

When you think of your childhood growing up in New York, what is your favorite memory?

I loved making up dances and hanging out with my twin and best friends Tesha and Daminique.

Many people know you from your recurring role as Zora on the hit tv series “Greenleaf”. Looking back, what would you consider one of your biggest lessons as an actress from this role?

Playing Zora really taught me the ropes. Specifically on how to maneuver on sets which made it the perfect learning experience.

You’re not new to playing characters that are going through difficult teenage years, rather that be in movies or television shows. Back in 2019 you starred in the film “Selah and the Spades” as Selah, who’s pretty much the Regina George of her boarding school clique. For those who’ve never seen this film, how would you describe your character?

I would describe Selah as a beautiful hyper-independent menace to society! She was written with goals, ambition and hope. I love these kinds of girls.

Similar to Zora, your latest role as Keisha Clark in the new series “Forever” has a lot of growing pains. In your opinion, what is one thing both characters have in common?

I would say Zora and Keisha both share a desire to be loved and seen for who they truly are outside of all of the scandal that may be.

As more people begin to binge “Forever” many people are talking about how Justin deserved better than Keisha, but I think Keisha is a little misunderstood. What is your take on the dynamic of Keisha and Justin’s relationship?

I think they had undeniable chemistry. They were so drawn to each other although they both had heavy hearts around the time of their reconnecting. The weight of their worlds shouldn’t be compared but considered when discussing teens in love.

Even though you’re 26 you can easily play a character 10+ years younger than you. How are you able to pull this off?

I guess I’m gonna have to thank my genes for one haha! As well as my desire to connect with everyone, teenagers included.

In your opinion, what is a huge difference from Katherine in the original book versus Keisha in the Netflix series?

I believe Keisha and Katherine have different levels of experimentation in regards to intimacy before finding their first love.

For anyone who’s ever dealt with being exposed to the world through an intimate tape with a partner like Keisha in “Forever”, what would you say to them?

I would say that I see you. I hope life took a turn in the best way possible afterwards! And that you got through it. Keisha and I are rooting for you!

What did you love most about being a part of the cast of “Forever”?

I loved everything! I loved everyone! It’s so hard to decide.

You can be seen rocking your hair in so many different styles, from braids to a natural fro. If you could only wear one style for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

I would wear braids because you can’t go wrong with that! Hair is detangled AND cute??!

Whenever you’re home in Atlanta, what does a typical self-care day look like for you?

I love a good yoga session before a bath followed by a movie night!

What dream role are you manifesting for yourself in the future?

I’m manifesting either an adventure film or a comedy!

If you could pick a song that would be the soundtrack to your life, what would it be?

CARMEN- Reiyo the Giant

What are 3 beauty items you keep with you at all times?

A scrunchie, a travel oil/perfume and something to keep the lips moisturized! (A&D ointment).

Leave Galore readers with one piece of life advice.

I’m gonna quote some funkadelic “Free yo mind and yo a$$ will follow”.
