Lea Michele’s 6 No B.S. Tips for Healthy Living

Lea Michele recently put us in the know on what’s keeping her looking confident, healthy, and happy. And we can all use a little know how on being the best that we could be. She says she’s the happiest she’s ever been in a while, and with the success of “Scream Queens” and her second album coming out, it really does show.

Not everyone enjoys going to the gym and if you’re anything like Lea Michele you can find the alternative equivalent that best suits you and your way of life. In her interview with Shape, she revealed her favorite things to do when she feels like breaking a sweat.

1. Your weight doesn’t determine your health.

Women’s bodies change a lot as we age, so of course we’re going to gain and lose weight as certain things shift.

A lot of people think that the number on the scale is the only thing that matters when it comes to healthy living when it really isn’t even close to the truth. But as Lea explains, you can’t compare your adult weight to what you weighed years ago.

“As I get older, my body is always changing,” she told Shape. “Right now I have so much energy, my skin looks good, and my butt is higher than it’s ever been. I’ve been skinnier and I’ve been a little bit bigger, and I’m never hard on myself one way or the other.”

2. If you keep your kitchen healthy, you can eat whatever when you go out.

Well, not whatever whatever, but you can enjoy yourself.

Lea keeps her kitchen stocked with healthy food so that she can indulge when she’s out. She doesn’t feel like she needs to to scramble for a green salad every time she goes out to dinner.

“If I’m going out and I want a bowl of pasta, I’ll eat it,” she says. “I’m not hard on myself… [but] I keep my snack options at home superhealthy.”

3. Don’t lose sleep to work out.

You might think you’re doing yourself a favor by getting up at the crack of dawn to work out. But if you don’t go to sleep early to make up for it, you’re screwing yourself.

“Sleep is the number one thing that gives me energy,” Lea told Shape, which, no duh. But she gets more specific, too, saying: “It’s imperative for me to get a solid eight or nine hours.”

So if you wanna be like Lea, don’t skimp on that sleep time — even if you’re trying to wake up early to go to the gym. The sleep might serve you better.

4. Hard work pays off — duh.

That said, if you set things up for yourself  in a rewarding way it will be much easier to get yourself motivated and committed. Ms. Lea Michele prides herself in setting goals and legitimately  going through with them, and her IG is a perfect example on how she stays on it with her set goals.

5. It’s okay if you don’t like the gym.

You don’t have to have a personal trainer or wander the weight room aimlessly if you don’t want to. Instead, try the Lea approach.

“Find three workouts you enjoy so that you can choose what you need on any given day,” she said. “I’m addicted to SoulCycle. I love the mentality in the room, the sense of community, and the fact that it’s fantastic exercise. I also do Core Power Hot Yoga, which is amazing, and I just started this new workout I love called The Studio MDR, which is sort of like an extreme version of Pilates.”

Find something you can lose yourself in without thinking that it’s all about just slimnastics.

6. You don’t have to force it.

Remember that your body knows what it needs rather than what you think it needs. Listen to the signals your body is trying to tell you. Don’t go against it, go with it.

“If I have one of those days when I don’t want to work out, I ask myself why,” Lea says. “I’ve learned how to listen to my body and know what I need in that moment… Now I can tell when my body is saying to take a break from working out, or when it’s saying, no, you’re being a little lazy, so that I can push myself to get going.”

If the stunning Ms. Lea Michele can do it, then you can too sweetie! Live by these tips and thrive!
