Iconic Supermodel Iman Says She Quit Fashion Because of Paris Hilton
There are a lot of people who love Paris Hilton — ourselves included — but former supermodel Iman is not one of those people.
In an episode of Oprah’s “Oprah: Where Are They Now,” Iman, who’s also David Bowie’s widow, explained why she abruptly quit modeling in 1989, and why she hasn’t been to a fashion show since.
And it’s all because of Paris.
As Iman explained to Oprah, “I was just starting to create Iman Cosmetics, so I wanted to be also taken seriously and not be at fashion shows every day.”
But the real story: she especially didn’t want to be at those fashion shows when they were the kinds of places where Paris liked to hang out.
“I read they held a show an hour for Paris Hilton,” she said. “I knew the game had changed. It became where everybody wants to be seen. I mean, when you have D-listers…We’re not talking about Linda Fargo from Bergdorf Goodman. You know, you hold a show for that person because she is the establishment, she is fashion. But, seriously? Paris Hilton? No.”
We’re guessing she’s not a big fan of the Kardashians either.
