Hair or Buildup — It Doesn’t Matter: How the Drain Detailer Tackles Stubborn Sink Blockages
Your kitchen and bathroom sinks get used day in and day out without a second thought — until they get clogged, that is. Whether the result of hair or food buildup, stubborn sink blockages can cause your sinks to drain slowly and leave a nasty smell in the room. If those clogs aren’t taken care of in a timely manner, they can eventually cause pipe corrosion and leaks, potentially resulting in costly plumbing repairs.
Many clog removal options, which do not specialize in sinks, like chemical drain cleaners and barbed drain cleaners, often aren’t enough to get the job done. They might only remove part of the clog or even compact or push debris deeper into the drain, making the clog even worse.
Fortunately, there’s a more effective solution, no matter what kind of sink blockage you’re trying to fix. As David Hazar, inventor and CEO of Drain Detailer, a patent pending reusable sink clog removal product, explains, his product’s unique approach to tackling sink blockages will get everything flowing smoothly again.
What Is the Drain Detailer, and How Does It Work?
“The Drain Detailer uses a removable, reusable silicone brush attachment that scrapes the inside of the pipe clean. This is paired with a plastic-covered flexible fiberglass rod and a removable ergonomic handle that makes it easy to insert the silicone brush into your sink drain,” Hazar explains.
“The width of the silicone brush allows it to remove all of the debris inside the pipe, including the buildup along the inner walls of the pipe that other cleaning options miss. Scraping away all of that buildup gives you a thorough clean.”
To use the tool, users first remove the drain cover from the sink drain, then remove the P-trap below the sink (unscrewing the higher side first, and then the lower side). The Drain Detailer comes with a silicone cover to cover the sewer side of the P-trap connection, which prevents sewer gases from entering the home. Users should also place a bucket underneath the sink drain to catch water and other debris. With these preliminary steps out of the way, the Drain Detailer is ready to use.
“Once you’ve got the sink area prepped, coat the silicone brush with dish soap, and then push it down the drain, carefully but firmly,” Hazar says. “You’ll push the Drain Detailer tool all the way through the pipe until the silicone brush comes out at the bottom. Before you see the brush, you’ll see the gunk and buildup get pushed out of the pipe. It can be a little gross to see all that buildup get pushed out, but the results are impressive. Best of all, this way you can know for sure that everything that was blocking your sink has been removed.”
After the silicone brush emerges from the bottom of the drain, it should be carefully removed from the cleaning rod and rinsed clean. The cleaning rod itself is pulled back up through the drain opening, after which the sink’s P-trap and drain cover can be replaced. Hazar recommends that users then run their sink to fill the P-trap to prevent sewer gases from entering the home and to make sure there aren’t any leaks where it was reattached.
Why the Drain Detailer Beats Other Clog Removal Options
So, why should the Drain Detailer be a homeowner’s sink clog removal option of choice over other drain cleaning tools? According to Hazar, it all comes down to the effectiveness of this clog removal tool.
“With barbed drain cleaners, you’re trying to snag hair and other debris, but you’re only able to remove what the barbs actually touch,” he explains. “They can’t do anything about the soap scum or mineral film coating the inner walls of the pipe, which is what traps a lot of the debris in the first place. And if you miss a snag, trying to get the blockage out can actually compress it or even push it deeper into the drain.”
Similarly, many liquid drain cleaners fail to fully remove clogs, instead potentially moving the clogs deeper into the pipe while also corroding plumbing lines and releasing toxic fumes into the room. The Drain Detailer doesn’t use any chemicals, so users don’t have to worry about skin or eye irritation, pipe corrosion or other issues.
“By pushing everything that is causing the blockage out of the pipe, including the buildup along the inside of the pipe, you’re able to completely eliminate the source of the blockage,” Hazar says.
“Getting rid of that buildup along the inner walls also makes it less likely that hair and other debris will get trapped inside the drain in the near future. You won’t have to worry about slow drainage or other sink clog problems for a long time. And there’s no guesswork. You know for sure that the clog is gone for good.”
A Smarter Approach to Sink Blockages
Every homeowner will have to deal with a blocked sink sooner or later — and how you try to remove that clog makes a difference. With a reusable solution that fully eliminates the source of the blockage, the Drain Detailer helps ensure that you can use your sinks normally again, and without needing to worry about them coming back anytime soon.
