There’s a Gross Reason Why Your Hair Hurts if You Don’t Wash it
It sounds crazy, but not washing your hair is all the rage as of late.
Your hairstylist probably tells you to chill out on the shampoo, and so do your favorite celebs. Lorde has said that she washes her hair every two weeks, and Kim Kardashian goes five days before washing her mane.
But, apparently not washing your hair regularly is chill for celebs, but not so chill for mere mortals, because not washing your hair enough could give you something similar to a yeast infection on your head.
Sounds cute, right?
If you ever feel like your scalp is hurting, or itching, or anything abnormal when you haven’t washed it in a bit, it might be a red flag.
Joshua Zeichner explained to Glamour that when your hair isn’t washed, the oils it produces can result in an overgrowth of yeast, which can then lead to skin inflammation, itchiness, redness, scaliness, or simply just pain.
Luckily, the treatment for this is super easy, and all you really have to do is wash your hair.
If you’re still having issues, Zeichner recommends a treatment like Nizoral 1 percent shampoo or Neutrogena T-Gel. And if that doesn’t work, you should probably see your dermatologist.
Now we’re even more confused about what to do with our hair. We were all aboard the no-wash express and it feels as if the conductor has suddenly halted the train and told us that everything we knew was a lie.
I guess there is no “right” answer when it comes to keeping healthy hair after all.
