Dawn Richard Doesn’t Believe in Love At First Sight
After Danity Kane and Making the Band, Dawn Richard is onto bigger and better things. She started a solo career in the music industry and is killing the game. Dawn recently released her new album, Redemption.
Check out our interview with Dawn where she explains what her music is about and why it’s so important to her.
Why is music important to you?
Music can heal. And can be an escape or a reality. It can be your therapist in times that are hard or great for you. It’s good for the soul.
What’s been your favorite part of the process so far?
The creative process. Being able to push myself to create something powerful and ethereal. Because I’m independent I have to be creative with cost and creative. I have to be an entrepreneur and an artist. I like that it keeps me on my toes.
What’s the biggest thing you hope people learn from music?
I hope they learn that my music was made to bring people together. To break down barriers and to embrace the outsider.
If we went through your iPhone photo library, what would we find?
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I believe in sex at first sight. Is that the same thing? Lol.
If you could eat dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?
Frida Kahlo. She was a flame. A fire. That conversation would be so grand.
You’re on your deathbed, what are your last words?
Pass the twizzlers.
What song would you want on repeat at your funeral?
This question is oddly awesome. Lol.
What’s the most valuable advice someone has given you in the music industry?
They’re all idiots and have no idea what they’re doing.
What’s something about your significant other that would be a deal breaker?
Serial killer is a deal breaker for me.
If you were to get arrested, what do you think it would be for?
Naked in public. Definitely.
What do you imagine your afterlife will look like?
Galloping Black unicorns with Seal singing “Kiss from a Rose” while everyone is dressed in Haider Ackermann … obviously.
What’s your sign?
What’s one question you’ll never answer?
No more making the band questions folks. People are tired of those questions just as much as I am lol.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
The powers of Jean Grey mixed with some LeeLoo.
