Carly Rae Jepsen and Rihanna Just Got Your Parents’ Embarrassing Old Haircuts

Even though everybody and their mom is going blonde this summer, there has been one very important brunette hair trend that’s been popping up everywhere.

Bangs.

But while some celebrities, like Selena Gomez, figured out a way to make bangs work for them, Carly Rae Jepsen and Rihanna kind of missed the memo.

Instead of getting the cute type of bangs, they got the kind of bangs your parents your parents used to have back in the day and are STILL embarrassed by.

On the one hand, we want to applaud them for trying to do something different, and on the other hand, we want to lightly smack them on the head and say, “WTF were you two thinking?”

Here’s what they did to themselves.

Your Father’s 80s Mullet

Carly Rae Jepsen is 30 years old, even though she doesn’t look a day over 21, and despite the fact that some people think she’s the savior of pop music, she hasn’t really become a thing yet.

When she heard that everybody was getting bangs, she probably thought to herself, “Gee, what can I do to be on trend, but separate myself from all the other mildly popular pop stars out there so people will finally give me the respect I deserve?”

Obviously, she decided the answer was to get herself a cool throwback haircut, but unfortunately she got a little confused about the “cool” part and instead gave herself the kind of mullet your father had in the 80s.

Maybe mullets are cooler in Canada?

To be fair, it does make her look less like a baby and more like an adult who’s had time to make one or twelve bad decisions in her life, but I think we can all agree that mullets are one trend that never has to have a revival.

Speaking of hair trends that never have to have a revival, here’s the haircut Rihanna decided to get.

Your Mother’s 90s Bangs

Rihanna can wear just about anything and somehow make it look cool, but even she can’t work her magic when it comes to this aggressively highlighted, poofy style that your mother probably had in the 90s because it was super easy to style in the five minutes she had between helping your father find the only tie that went with his incredibly bland suit and making sure you got to school more than three minutes before the first bell rang.

To be honest, it’s probably a wig and may never be seen on her head again, but once was more than enough.

Maybe she wore it because Drake is really into the mom vibe.

Or maybe she wore it because Drake really hates it, and that’s her way of asserting her own independence as they’re quickly morphing into the kind of couple who wears matching outfits when they hit the town.

Or maybe she wore it because it matched perfectly with her oversized pantsuit, which coincidentally looks like something your Mom probably wore in the 90s.

Or the 80s.

At least she got a lot of wear out of it.

People: if you must get bangs, please don’t get bangs like Carly Rae Jepsen and Rihanna, okay?

You deserve more.
