WALLETTE Shares Rework of Judy Carter’s “Listen To The Music” As Part Of #RabanneRemix Challenge

Rising singer-songwriter WALLETTE today has shared her rework of Judy Carter’s track “Listen To The Music.” Revealed through the #RabanneRemix Challenge held this summer, New York–based singer/songwritrer WALLETTE reimagines Carter’s disco-soul classic (Paco Rabanne Design, 1983) in a modern and luminous version recorded at Miraval Studios. Driven by WALLETTE’s powerful voice and infectious joy, this new take pays tribute to the energy and groove that made the song a hit back in the eighties.

Invited to spend time at Miraval Studios, WALLETTE recorded her new version of Listen To The Music alongside producer Damien Quintard — a soulful, uplifting take that captures the groove and spirit of the original hit. Designed as a genuine live session, the track was recorded entirely in-studio, with contributions from multi-instrumentalist Augustin Charnet. The result captures the spontaneity and emotion of the moment, bringing a fresh, organic energy to the song while showcasing WALLETTE’s distinctive voice and personality. Within the exceptional setting of Miraval Studios, the magic of the place met the power of her voice — creating a sound that feels both modern and deeply rooted in disco-soul.

“It’s one of those moments when you’re in a session and suddenly realize the artist in front of you has that thing, that star material. The kind of energy you can’t manufacture, because it’s woven into her DNA. I’m so proud of how the remix turned out, and even more excited to watch Wallet take over the world with her voice in the coming years.”  —  Damien Quintard, producer and co-founder of Miraval Studios

“Working with Damien and his whole team was nothing short of magical. He’s so in tune with every inch of the space it made collaborating effortless and so much fun. It was a truly heartwarming and inspiring journey. I’m so grateful for the amazing team and the freedom the studio gave us to experiment and create without limits. Safe to say we all had a really good time! Everything about the experience reflected what Rabanne is all about. Art, freedom, and staying true to who you are. It’s changed my life and I’ve never been more ready for what’s to come next.” —  WALLETTE

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

Your rework of “Listen To The Music” honors Judy Carter’s original while bringing a luminous, contemporary feel to it. What was your guiding vision when you approached such an iconic disco-soul track, and how did you find the balance between respecting its legacy and expressing your own sound?

Honestly, my main goal was to honor the magic that was already there. Judy Carter created something timeless, and I didn’t want to lose any of the groove, I just wanted to bring a new feeling to it, one that reflects who I am! For me, that meant leaning into warmth and soul, and finding that sweet spot between nostalgia and something fresh.

Day 1, Damien and I are sat at one of the many pianos in the studio and he started playing these moody, unexpected chords, and I just looked at him and said, “This is crazy, let’s do it.” That moment set the tone for everything that followed. We wanted to keep the rhythm and feeling of Judy’s original, but bring in something new, soulful, honest, and a little unexpected. It’s about respecting the legacy while letting it evolve, and finding that space where both worlds meet.

Miraval Studios has such a rich history — from Pink Floyd to Sade — and your collaboration there with Damien Quintard sounds magical. How did the studio’s atmosphere and Damien’s production approach influence the energy and direction of your rework?

Miraval has such a rich history. I remember going into the mic room and literally holding Sade’s mic. Crazy. Working with Damien was absolutely magical. The entire atmosphere at Miraval gives you this freedom and comfort to just be the best version of yourself, and Damien’s approach to production… we just clicked immediately. We saw things in a similar way and it made the whole process so much more fun. Honestly, the energy from him and the whole team really shaped the track. I hope when people listen, they can feel that warmth, that happiness, and all the smiles we had on our faces while making it. I hope you feel like you were there in the room with us!

The #RabanneRemix challenge celebrates creativity and freedom — themes that also run deep in your artistry. How did participating in this project shape your perspective as a musician, and how does it connect to what you’re planning for your next chapter?

This experience grounded me in who I am as an artist. It reminded me that creativity is meant to be free, not boxed in or overthought. It’s easy for me to get in my own way some times, and this project gave me space to just play, to trust my instincts, and to reimagine something familiar, in my own voice. That’s such a big part of where I’m at right now, leaning into the unexpected and letting things go where they’re meant to go.

Working with a brand that celebrates individuality and expression just makes me want to go harder, and hope I get the opportunity to do it again! This whole experience feels like a spark, that’ll light the fuse!! A new chapter where I’m embracing growth, taking risks, and creating from a place of joy and honesty. I feel like I’m only just getting started, and that’s the most exciting part. Saying I’m grateful would be an understatement.
