Kit Major Shares “Sponge” Single + Video | Love.Sick.Major. EP Due Out October 25th

Last month, LA rocker Kit Major announced her newest EP, Love.Sick.Major. The announcement came on the heels of the resounding success of her single “Let Me In Your Band,” and alongside her high-energy single “Garbage Planet.”

Today, she is releasing the newest single from her EP, “Sponge.” Clocking in at just under two minutes, it packs a 90’s grungy punch, immediately kicked off by the gritty guitar riff and crashing drums. ‘Sponge’ is a song full of grit and glitter,” Kit says, and the track’s punky, DIY-inspired music video perfectly captures that blend of raw edge and sparkle.”It’s made for flipping over tables and maybe cleaning up the aftermath.”

“When I was first writing ‘Sponge’, it was melodic and a little mindless, but somewhat poetic,” Kit recalls. “I wasn’t trying to dig too deep, but then the song grew into a bigger concept of absorption: either people absorbing me or me absorbing others. Being a sponge isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing.”

With a fusion of post-punk energy, psychedelic guitar riffs and some cheeky self-references, Major gives classic rock vibes a fun twist. Reminiscent of iconic acts like Blondie and New York Dolls, Kit Major’s sound resonates with the rebellious spirit of CBGB’s legendary scene. This EP is for fans of Hole, Blur, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Garbage, Green Day, Descendents.

Kit Major’s newest EP, Love.Sick.Major., is due out October 25th.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

The DIY-inspired music video for “Sponge” perfectly matches the vibe of the song. What was the inspiration behind the video and how involved were you in its creation?

When I’m writing, I can vividly picture the world the song exists in, and this was one of those moments where my imagination aligned perfectly with that vision. I imagined a room that was both dirty and glittery, with a metallic sheen—a gritty, surreal space that reflected the song’s sound and energy. For the video, I collaborated with director and editor Adrian Vega Albela Osorio, cinematographer Adrian Hernandez, and stylists and creative director Kailia Bowlby.

I started with a mood board and worked closely with Adrian to develop the concept. We rearranged the furniture, and together, Adrian, Kailia, and Adrian transformed my dining room into the glitter-filled space you see. Kailia has an incredible fashion sense—she helped create the looks and even lent me her wig.

Coming from the LA music scene, how do you feel the energy of the city influences your music, particularly on this EP?

What’s fun about this EP is that it pulls influences from multiple cities. There’s a bit of that laid-back, too-cool-for-school LA vibe, a surf punk energy from Orange County, a groovy Manchester guitar, London punk rock attitude, and a touch of New York’s dark glamour.

The song is less than two minutes long but packs a lot of energy. What was your goal with creating such a short, high-impact track?

It came about naturally through the storytelling. The song’s high energy reflects the desire to break free from the frustration of people pleasing. No one wants to feel used or left behind.
