Maty Noyes’s Latest Song Is All About Her Witchy Past Life

Cool girl Maty Noyes tells us about her newest single “London” and the interesting story behind the song. We got a chance to look through her incredible wardrobe and get some tips on her ah-mazing thrifting habits!

Where are you from?

I was born in St. Louis, grew up in Mississippi and moved to Nashville when I was 16. A year later I ended up in LA. I like to say I got a little taste of it all!

How long have you been singing?

I’ve been singing all my life, but the first time I started doing it publicly was when I was 12. I just got my first guitar and starting writing songs immediately. Later that week, my mom bribed me into playing an open mic and since that day I couldn’t stop!

How would you describe your sound?

I would say my sound is kind of retro pop, but also just a mix of everything I love and all the inspiration I draw from. The songs are catchy and relatable, but the lyrics have a lot of meaning. All the songs are written about true stories in my life I love to use real strings, real horns, and real musicians.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw inspiration from every day life. The people I meet and the experiences I go through. For me,  it’s just another way to tell my story.

What’s the routine for your writing process?

It’s different every time! It all depends on who I’m working with. I like the other person to feel comfortable as well. I typically like to adapt to the situation I’m in. Whether it starts with a melody, words, piano chords, it always come together at the end of the day.

Is there a story behind “London”?

London is a song about my life story. It’s about becoming the queen you are on the inside even when no one else believed you could be. When I first came to LA I went to go see a healer. When I walked into the room, she told me lots of spirits were with me. She said it was my family from a past life and they were here to ask for forgiveness for they had killed me because they thought I was a witch. I was the queen of diamonds in the deck and they were the other cards. I told her I forgave them and she said that angels flew above me and poured white diamonds all over me. Wind rushed through my body and I became the queen of diamonds again.

What are you working on now?

I’m always writing and creating new stuff.  I love all kinds of art, painting, acting, fashion, you name it. The possibilities are limitless, but my next step is to put out an album and try to take over the radio

Who are your favorite musicians?

I love Elvis, I always say he was my first love. I listen to a lot of Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye, Erika Badu, The Weeks, goat, The Weekend, Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and the list goes on and on.

What song are you obsessing over rn?

I’m obsessed with “Back to Me” by Marian Hill! It’s my jam right now.

You have SUCH an amazing fashion sense. How would you describe your style?

I would say my style is like my music. I love combing vintage pieces with high fashion. I’m pretty open to trying many different looks, so it just depends on which day you get me 🙂

What’s your favorite piece from your closet?

It’s hard to say, but one thing that is for sure is that I’m obsessed with shoes. I joke and say that I collect them more than I wear them. Aside from shoes though, I would say it’s good to have a solid body suit in your wardrobe because you can just throw anything over it and wear it a million different ways. Dress it up and down.

What shops do you hit to find the best vintage pieces?

My favorite spot is the Melrose market on Sundays. But I’m constantly traveling and finding cool pieces. Every time I go to a new city I ask where the most hipster coffee shop is and usually the vintage shops are located around it and that’s how I find my stuff.

Favorite makeup/beauty trend?

My favorite trend is literally just “waking up like this” and rolling with it LOL! I’m all about the lips, eyebrows, and lashes, as long as those are on point I can do anything.
