The 2016 MTV Movie Award Nominees Are Actually From Movies You Went to See
The full list of 2016 MTV Movie Awards has just been released, and Michael B. Jordan was nominated for Best Male Performance.
This is important because he’s extremely hot. And because he was one of the actors of color who got snubbed for an Oscar, setting off a huge conversation about diversity in Hollywood.
Following all the controversy surrounding this year’s Academy Awards inability to recognize actors of color for their work, it was important for the MTV Movie Awards to function as a “true reflection of real movie-going audiences,” MTV’s Executive Producer Casey Patterson said in a release.
“What has always been so cool about the MTV Movie Awards is that it’s about blockbuster movies that audiences line up to see; comedies, superheroes, science fiction, fantasy, action.” he went on. “This show is about fandom, and the stars come out to celebrate that.”
So it makes sense that Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Deadpool, two blockbuster action movies, have nabbed the most nominations, garnering 11 and 8 respectively, as opposed to snobby Oscar movies like Spotlight and Room, which barely anyone even went to see.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart will host the awards. The ceremony will take place on April 10, but fans have until Sunday, March 20 to vote for their favorite movies on the Movie Awards website.
Anybody who doesn’t vote for Michael B. Jordan isn’t my friend anymore. See the list of full nominees below:
