7 Times Celebs Tried to Make Anklets the New Choker
Because the choker wasn’t enough in terms of 90s nostalgia accessories, the fashion world is trying to make anklets cool again.
According to Vogue, anklets are “the subtle accessory you need this summer,” and Elle UK agrees that “anklets are back,” but honestly, when’s the last time you took a look at yourself in the mirror and thought, “Gee, you know what would make this outfit look even better? An anklet.”
Probably never, right?
In fact, do you even remember when the last time you wore an anklet was?
Was it when you were 14 and having the best summer of your life at camp, or was it when you were 20 and spent your time off from college doing drugs, shopping at Urban Outfitters with your parents’ money and convincing yourself you could commune with the trees?
I guess what I’m trying to say is that chances are you haven’t thought about anklets in a long time, because they’re pretty pointless. But they’re a great way to show that you can afford sparkly things, so they’re back af!
Over the past year, anklets have been seen walking down the spring ready-to-wear runways of Calvin Klein and Chloe.
And since then they’ve even sneaked their way into the Haute Couture shows of Valentino and Dior.
Of course, once the fashion world said it was okay, it was only a matter of time before the models and the fashionably conscious celebrities of the world started sporting anklets on casual days about town.
Here are VS models Lily Aldridge and Behati Prinsloo showing their allegiance to the ankle bracelet.
Here’s Hailey Baldwin, sporting the tightest, chunkiest anklet I’ve ever seen.
And here’s Rihanna, who dared to wear an ankle bracelet on the red carpet, and what do you know, at the time we didn’t even notice because we were too busy staring at her cleavage instead.
Unsurprisingly however, no celebrity has quite embraced anklets like the queen of boho casual, Vanessa Hudgens, who has been photographed wearing an ankle bracelet at least three times since Coachella.
When your shoes match your dress perfectly 👍🏻👌🏻💯

Of course, given our current obsession with wearing pants that stop just short of our ankles, the sudden re-emergence of anklets sort of makes sense, but I personally can’t get behind the fashion world’s insistence that in addition to spending copious amounts of money to adorn my wrists, neck, arms, earlobes, face, body and feet, I also have to add my ankles to the list.
Get ready for the inevitable toe ring comeback of 2017, I guess.
