Why Kerri Medders Is Actually The Chillest Aspiring 16-Year-Old Pop Star

Kerri Medders is a sixteen-year-old singer-songwriter who tells me she often gets written up as older than she is, but in our interview today, we cleared up more than a few things.

The “Run Love” singer  may look like a blonde, blue-eyed aspiring pop star, but she’s also pretty chill and weird.

“I have two alter egos,” she explained to me matter-of-factly over the phone. “Well, there are two mixed into one.”

Wow. Does she have different voices for each of them? I ask.

“No, I don’t think I talk differently,” then, after a moment of consideration. “What I really like to do, is listen to music, or watch the movie Almost Famous, to get into character. Then I write.”

That’s pretty cool… right? What kind of person, let alone a sixteen-year-old, has two alter egos? Kerri Medders, that’s who. Check out her music out here, and read our interview with her below.

How old are you?

I’m 16. Everyone always tries to bump my age up a couple of years, though I’m not sure why. But yeah, I’m 16.

Do you want any tattoos?

My parents would be like, what are you doing?! I would probably get a 1975 lyric.

Which is your favorite?

“Babe, you look so cool,” from the song “Robbers.”

Do you have any piercings?

I already have my ear pierced, and my cartilage.

Have you ever bullied anyone? Or been bullied?

I have never bullied anyone, but I have been bullied. I was different than a lot of people growing up, and nobody took me seriously about what I wanted to do, and especially here, when people see something different about you, they try to dim your light a little bit. But at a certain point, I realized that you just have to keep your light going.

That’s great advice, who told you that?

I told myself that [laughing]!

That’s great news. If you were a nail polish color, what color would you be?

I am such a lilac kind of person, or so either like, light blue or light purple.

Have you ever broken someone’s heart?

To be honest, maybe. I don’t know [laughing].

Do you have any groupies?

Ooh, I don’t think so. I’d be into that though, that would be rad.

What’s your favorite TV show?

My tops right now are “The 100,” and “Reign.”

Who was your first actor crush?

Obviously Leonardo DiCaprio. When I first saw him, I was like, ooh, he’s fine, oh my gosh.

What’s your favorite Leo movie?

Of course, I’m going to say Titanic. Your heart just melts for him in it.

Who’s your favorite actress?

Jennifer Lawrence, because I recently watched the movie Joy with her, and she’s my acting inspiration. The way she brings out her characters is so beautiful to me.

What’s the first song you ever wrote?

“A Friend.” It was literally about me on the beach, singing about a friend. I was originally from Texas and I moved to LA when I was really young, so I was probably just thinking about my friends back home [laughing].
