Selena Is Telling Girls to Stop Showing Their Bodies on Insta
In addition to making a glorious return to public life and explaining she had to take a break because she felt “absolutely broken inside,” Selena Gomez also made a plea to all the young girls out there at the AMAs this weekend.
Stop getting half-naked on Instagram.
“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in here,” Selena said during her AMA acceptance speech, pointing to her heart.
Seriously, Sele?
You’re giving us the after-school special talk?
Granted, what she probably meant to say was something empowering along the lines of, “I showed my half-naked body on Instagram and it didn’t make me happy so don’t assume it’ll make you happy either,” but it came out like low-key slut shaming statement instead.
While no girls should feel obligated to push up their boobs and wear revealing clothes on Instagram if that’s not their thing, if it is and you’re old enough to make your own decisions about it, you should feel empowered to do that.
Hopefully this is just a one-time lapse of judgement for Selena and not a reflection of her values now.
There are more ways to set a good example for the children out there than by borderline shaming them, Sele boo boo.
