Romi Peles Shares “Deep Inside The Ocean” Single + Lyric Video, Break Up Album Due for Release June 13

Psychedelic indie composer, guitarist, and record producer Romi Peles is set to release his third studio effort, “Break Up Album”, on June 13th. A deeply personal and sonically expansive project, the album marks a major evolution for Romi, as he shifts focus from instrumental compositions to raw, vocal-driven songwriting. “This album is a collection of tracks I’ve written over the past six years—songs that are incredibly close to my heart,” says Romi. “It primarily reflects the pain of a breakup with someone I loved and how that loss mixed with the grief of losing people close to me, including my cousin, Roy, at a young age.” Break Up Album also explores the emotional struggles of being an artist, capturing the weight of creation and personal transformation. The album was produced by Romi himself and mastered by Stephen Marcussen (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder).

Today, Romi is sharing the second single from the album, “Deep Inside the Ocean“. “This song is a bittersweet reflection on love and loss,” Romi reflects. “It’s about me looking back at my girlfriend at that time after we broke up. It’s about the spectrum of someone going from being close to me to becoming a stranger. I produced the song in 2021, and after it sat in the drawer for two years, I came back to it, recorded the rap verse, and finished it.” With “Break Up Album”, Romi invites listeners into his most vulnerable and cathartic work yet, transforming pain into something both intimate and universal. The album showcases his growth as a songwriter and vocalist, blending psychedelic textures with deeply personal storytelling. The lyric video for “Deep Inside The Ocean” is out now. Break Up Album is due for release on June 13th.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

“Deep Inside the Ocean” touches on the feeling of being close to someone to becoming “two familiar strangers.” The chorus muses “Deep inside the ocean / I can tell her how I feel, really feel about her”. What does the ocean represent for you in this track?

Deep inside the ocean represents an imaginary place… or some moment outside reality. Maybe a dream, or a place that can’t really happen. It’s a symbol for an escape. A trip. I guess it’s about fighting that feeling of letting someone you love go… your mind knows it’s not right for you, but your heart is much slower to understand that.

You mentioned that you produced this track in 2021 but came back to it two years later to finish it. How did your perspective on the song change over that time? Did the lyrics come in 2021 or when you revisited the track?

When I came back to it, most of the lyrics were already down. But I rewrote one verse and added the last rap part at the end, which was about my new girlfriend — it’s kind of a love note… “lady bug she humbles me. she is good she is great, everywhere i go she follows me” but yeah. Even in the love note, there’s that feeling that nothing’s really stable..

Your new album Break Up Album marks a shift from instrumental compositions to more vocal-driven songwriting. What prompted this change for you, and how did it feel to move into a more personal, lyrical space?

That’s a big question. I don’t remember a specific moment I wanted to start singing and writing lyrics—it was a natural process. I started doing it in 2019, and I remember realizing how powerful that was—that your voice is unique, and a sound that only you have.
I love the progress and the journey it took me on. When I started singing, it gave me another aspect I could use—combined with lyrics, you can tell a story in a new way.
It feels personal because as a singer, I was more sensitive. A lot of people who know me see me through the guitar, and this was something new. It feels good to have made this journey and to take the time to dig out all of your lyrics.
