FEATURE INTERVIEW:
Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the song “Love Is Like That”?
This song is a meditation on a certain kind of unconditional love one can express in a close friendship. Taking on all the joy but also the pain of another. I was thinking about how love in friendships can be so complex and how it evolves over time, sometimes nearing toxic.
This is the third song you’ve shared from your upcoming album “Self-Soothing”. How would you describe the overall mood or theme of the album?
The record is emotional and sensitive. It touches on all the delicate and cringy feelings I have had in the last 10 years that I haven’t really been willing to share, sometimes even with myself.
Can you share more about the process of writing and composing “Self-Soothing”? Was there a specific emotional or personal journey that influenced the album?
Creating this record reflects this desire to get outside of myself after a time of being very internal. Sharing the demos with Andrew Broder felt vulnerable at first and he truly expanded the vision and the sonic scope of these songs. It was so meaningful to collaborate with him. His approach is very intuitive and considerate and gave me space to explore the possibilities of where these songs could go once they left my bedroom.
