6 Old Lady Beauty Tricks That Actually Work

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

This motto can apply to everything from relationship issues to career worries to, yes, your most cherished old-school beauty hacks.

With that in mind, we’ve assembled a list of handy tips and tricks that have stood the test of time. Enjoy.

1. All Clinique Everything

Clinique’s been around since 1968 — and its packaging has barely changed since. What this no-fuss, no-muss beauty brand lacks in glamour and celeb endorsements, it makes up for in reliability. Clinique was one of the first brands to take a dermatological approach to skincare and they pretty much put the concept of exfoliation on the map.

My skincare routine has been almost 100% Clinique since sixth grade, and it’s never steered me wrong. Especially if your skin’s oily like mine, you’ll swear by Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. Their night creams are also amazing.

2. Pond’s Cold Cream

Like Clinique, Pond’s is old af but still around for a reason. Slather this cold cream all over your face after a long day, and watch even the heaviest eyeliners melt away like butter.

Pond’s not only removes makeup, but its diehard devotees swear it’ll keep you young forever. Eternally youthful stars like Stacey Dash and Kylie Minogue swear by it, and they should know.

If you have sensitive skin, make sure you opt for the fragrance-free variety, though. Oh, and it’s only five bucks. Sold!

3. Cucumber Slices

A green mud mask and two perfectly circular cucumber slices are probably just what you picture when you think of your mom’s favorite spa day from the ’80s. But as it turns out, cucumbers really do work for de-puffing the skin around your eyes — just ask Kate Moss, who takes her cucumber obsession one step further by dunking her face into ice cold cucumber water in the mornings.

And if you’re just too fancy to put actual produce on your eyes and you have $50 to burn, you could always try Peter Thomas Roth’s Cucumber De-Tox De-Puffing Eye Cubes.

4. Weight Watchers

Haven’t you heard? OPRAH EATS BREAD NOW, YOU GUYS! All thanks to Weight Watchers.

All joking aside, though, Weight Watchers dead ass will make you lose weight way better than “clean eating” ever could. I should know — I gave the preferred diet of PTA moms everywhere a shot last year and lost 15 pounds, getting me down to a weight lower than I was in high school. You can laugh at the idea of a 20-something doing the Dubs (as it’s affectionately known in my household) if you want, I’ll just be over here tabulating my daily points allowance from the comfort of my size two skinny jeans.

5. Vitamin E

Galore staffer Elena de Santiago shared this tip straight from her mom (pictured above) and grandma, who have barely a wrinkle between them: bust open a Vitamin E capsule and rub it all over your face each day.

This isn’t just a wives’ tale, either. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. In fact, natural beauty companies have caught on to the magic of Vitamin E. They now sell it in oil form, so you can pretty much cut out the middle man and just buy it pre-formulated for your face.

6. Eat Your Vegetables

The beauty benefits of fruits and veggies are endless.

First of all, they contain phytonutrients that will repair your skin at a cellular level and antioxidants that protect your skin from premature aging. Plus, their high fiber content just keeps everything moving in your body, which will keep you looking and feeling refreshed.

Next time you look in the mirror and think your reflection’s a bit dull, add some raw fruits and veggies or a daily green juice to your diet. After just three days or so, you’ll be glowing just like your grandma promised.

Et voila, you’re now an über-glam, über-svelte dime piece, no millennial tricks like contouring needed.
