Try this “holy grail” lip plumping ingredient instead of injections or over-lining

There’s been a major emphasis on lips for the past few years, and it doesn’t look like the beauty world’s collective love for bright lip shades is going away any time soon.

The ways we emphasize our lips, though, are changing. If you’re still dabbling in over-the-top lip injections and gobs of lipliner, you’ll be looking very early 2017 and that just won’t do. Instead, this year, taking care of your natural lips is.

Dana Persico, the founder and CEO of the Long Island Nail & Skin Care Institute, gave us the skinny on how hyaluronic acid can give your lips a fuller, healthier look without injections or overlining.

“Hyaluronic acid makes you look younger and fresher,” Dana says. “It’s not actually an acid – it’s a sugar and sort of sponge. Every molecule can hold 1,000 times its weight in water. It temporarily will smooth and plump the area it is applied to, and is a holy grail ingredient.”

Dana recommends Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Lip Treatment, which is just $8.49 and contains hyaluronic acid.

Hyaluronic acid can also be used in skincare products to give the face a more well-rested, plump appearance. If you’re just starting to dabble in anti-aging, a serum or cream with hyaluronic acid is a great place to start.

For skincare, Dana recommends this $7 serum from The Ordinary.

At Galore, we’re obsessed with Youth to the People’s hyaluronic acid products, like this $48 cream that also includes kale, spinach and green tea.

Now go forth and be plump!
