Kelly Rowland Is Launching a Makeup Line for Women of Color

Kelly Rowland is the latest celeb to join the ranks of celebrity beauty entrepreneurs.

While launching your own makeup line is a fad many celebs are going crazy over, this Grammy award-winning artist is putting her own spin on it.

“My makeup artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a makeup line… But [we’re] definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there.” Kelly told Essence.

Quite frankly, the fact that Kelly’s line of beauty products will specifically cater to women of color is golden.

While most brands on the market do offer some choices for women with darker skin tones, it’s no secret that they’re majorly lacking.

When it comes to foundations, powders, blushes and bronzers not only is it tough to find a color that matches your skin tone if you’re darker, reds and pinks made for fairer skin won’t show up at all. Most brands have products for women of color but they supply generic shades that range from caramel, to mocha, to chocolate and nothing in between. The struggle is so real that models – including Nykhor Paul – have openly spoken out about “being tired of apologizing for blackness” and how the fashion and beauty industries don’t adequately support dark women.

Shoutout to brands such as Black Opal, Black Up, Lancome, Bobbi Brown and Iman Cosmetics that cater to dark skin tones and do it well. Kelly also acknowledged that some brands have been more successful than others, saying, “I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line and I want to do it too.”

And if her line is modelled on Iman’s – then we know it’s going to be bomb.
