For the Spring/Summer 2027 season, Peruvian fashion designer Jorge Luis Salinas presents El Retablo, a collection that once again draws inspiration from his homeland and the stories that inhabit it. A journey through the Andes, exploring memory, devotion, community and living traditions.

Among the most internationally recognised Peruvian designers, Jorge Luis Salinas has developed a distinctive creative language deeply rooted in his origins. Tradition, identity and contemporaneity form the pillars of an approach that looks to Peru’s cultural heritage as something living—a legacy to be preserved, while simultaneously reinterpreted through the language of fashion.

At the heart of his creative practice lies Peruvian craftsmanship. J.SALINAS collaborates with women artisans who preserve techniques passed down through generations, transforming hand-worked crochet, weaving and embroidery into collections where every garment embodies the value of time, skill, and human touch.
“My aim is for each garment to serve as a bridge between past and present; for tradition to engage in dialogue with contemporary design and, above all, for the world to discover the cultural richness of our land,” says Jorge Luis Salinas.

It is within this ongoing exploration that El Retablo takes shape.

The Retablo is a fascinating form of traditional folk art from the Andes, deeply rooted in Peruvian culture. It takes the form of a small structure or devotional box, often crafted from wood, within which figures, people, animals and scenes from everyday, religious and communal life are brought to life.

Each Retablo encapsulates an entire world: religious celebrations, processions, agricultural activities, weddings, rituals and everyday moments coexist within a confined space. Far beyond a decorative object, it serves as a vessel for preserving and transmitting collective memory and cultural heritage.

 

“What moves me most is that every Retablo is handcrafted. It bears the imprint of its maker, the passage of time and the legacy of tradition. It reminds us that craftsmanship is more than a technique; it is a way of keeping memory alive,” explains the designer.

In creating the collection, J.SALINAS explores this concept in an effort to capture its essence. Organza and ultra-fine Pima cotton are paired with intricate layering, sheer materials and crochet craftsmanship, resulting in garments defined by rich texture and meticulous detailing. Short dresses, capes and more fluid silhouettes create a striking contrast between the delicacy of the fabrics and the expressive character of the artisanal techniques.
The color palette draws from the vibrancy of the Andes: yellow, pistachio,turquoise, blue and sky blue are enlivened by shades of red, coral, orange and carrot, complemented by a spectrum of lilac and violet. Completing the narrative, the accessories celebrate traditional savoir-faire: clutches and bags are entirely handcrafted in crochet, while leather footwear is enriched with crochet inserts and delicate floral details.
With El Retablo, Jorge Luis Salinas continues to tell the story of Peru through fashion. A narrative shaped by skilled hands, carried across generations and imbued with the identity of a land and its people.
