IV Jay Premiere’s “Care” as a Warning For Her Future Bae

17-year-old IV Jay knows she’s a bad bitch — and she’s not afraid to tell you.

She also knows that, like most 17-year-old girls, she doesn’t really know what she wants in a relationship yet — besides fun, that is.

Her new track, “Care,” serves as a warning to future boos to watch it when they start feeling her — because they might get their hearts broken. Check it out here:

Tell us more about your new song “Care.” What was the inspiration behind it?

“Care” is about the playful side of dating and just having fun with it all. Writing this song really made me open up about not being “perfect” in relationships. It made me realize that sometimes I might play with guys’ minds a little too much for fun, but at the end of the day I do really care about the relationships I have.

Who has been the biggest inspiration in your career so far?

I feel like the biggest inspiration in my career so far has been Billie Eilish. We are the same age and seeing her growth and success at only 17 is super inspirational to me.

Where did you grow up and how did this influence your sound?

I grew up in Paterson, New Jersey. I definitely feel like growing up there gave me a more gritty and fly sound. It’s not perfectly polished, but it’s super real.

What female musicians or icons do you look up to?

I definitely look up to Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah as my music icons. I’ve been listening to them since I was like 10 years old because my mom and aunts were always playing their songs. Their sound is what inspires my sound.

Your hair is fab! How do you keep those curls so perfect?

I honestly feel like my hair has a mind of its own! I’m not sure I can live without DevaCurl Curly – that hair product is the foundation of these curls.

What is one beauty tip you live by?

My one beauty tip to live by is to always have some lip gloss with you. Lip gloss makes everything better.

What is the one thing you can’t leave the house without?

One thing I can’t leave my house without is a hair tie on my wrist. You definitely need one of those babies – maybe even two at all times, just in case one breaks!

What can we expect to see next from you in 2019?

In 2019 you can expect some super super fire new music. I’m getting ready to drop EP #2!  All I can say is it’s CRAZY so be on the lookout for it!
