It’s easy to write off plastic surgeons as greedy opportunists who make millions off of female insecurity — and equally easy to write off the women who turn to them as vapid — but as the great modern mind Iggy Azalea reminded us yesterday, that’s an incredibly small-minded way of thinking.
Writing on her Instagram to wish her plastic surgeon a happy birthday, Iggy said:
“It might seem obvious I’d hold the man I owe my fabulous nose and breasts to in high regard. But vanity aside; Ash you’re hilarious as hell, talented, eclectic, a progressive thinker & someone who supports women in their choice to do what they want with their OWN bodies (tons of men don’t share that sentiment) so cheers to you! I’m proud to call you my friend.”
As hard as it is to accept that Iggy Azalea has something insightful to say, you have to hand it to her.
A woman’s right to choose doesn’t just apply to abortion, and no matter how you feel about plastic surgery, doesn’t mean you have any business bad-mouthing people who feel differently.
And plastic surgeons help empower women to make these decisions about their bodies, which low key makes them feminists.
Granted, it’s not like they’re performing boob jobs and tummy tucks out of the goodness of their hearts, but it makes you think, doesn’t it?
Just when we’re ready to count you out Iggy, you always do something to pleasantly surprise us.
