Gigi Wore a Poncho On the Runway Cuz She Wasn’t ‘Quite as Thin’
I think it’s safe to go ahead and say that Gigi Hadid is a certified hottie with a body most of us would kill for, and yet apparently she was too fat to wear anything but a poncho down her first Tommy Hilfiger runway.
In an interview with Yahoo Style, Tommy Hilfiger himself got to reminiscing about working with Gigi Hadid for the first time during NYFW last year, and boy did he have a story to tell.
“Our casting director said, ‘She doesn’t really fit because you know, she’s not quite as tall as the other girls, she’s not quite as thin, so they put a red, white and blue poncho on her,” Tommy revealed. “It covered a lot of her body, unfortunately.”
Right Tommy, because that’s how a poncho works. As a clothing designer, it’s impossible you did not know this.
But let’s not lose focus on what’s really important here: Gigi Hadid wasn’t thin enough to wear anything but a poncho down the runway?
Now, we all know the modeling industry reenforces unrealistic body expectations, but a poncho?
Are you shitting me, Tommy boy?
But on the bright side, Gigi’s poncho got “millions of hits,” whatever that means in oldmanspeak, so Tommy said to himself, “you know, why don’t we ask her to design a line with us?”
Obviously, Gigi said yes, and you know what?
There wasn’t a poncho in sight.
