Get Super ‘Dum’ With Aleesia’s New Video

Well, it’s already November and though in some places it’s still hot and humid like the middle of July, we may have to accept the fact that the summer is over. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t close our eyes, listen to Aleesia’s tune “Dum,” and pretend the summer is still here.

Besides the fact that Aleesia is so effing cute and also that we wanna steal all her fashion vibes from head to toe, she’s worked with big names all the way from Bruno Mars to Sir Elton John.

Her single “Dum” has a bit of marimba, a bit of island pop, and huge hook that’ll stick in your head for like, ever. It’s a bop, for sure.

With rumors that her upcoming EP features Afrojack and Dan Talevski — Aleesia is def a girl we wanna watch. Check out this super cute vid for “Dum” and our Q&A with Aleesia below!

Full name, nickname(s), and favorite quote/or mantra?

Aleesia Jessica Stamkos. Alee. Be who you are, say what you feel. Because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter won’t mind.

Tell us one thing about you that makes you radical.

I can count to 100 in Cantonese.

Describe your sound.

Rihanna meets MO sprinkled with some pixie dust.

Who are some of your influences?

Musically, I grew up on Destiny’s Child and have an unhealthy obsession with Beyonce, so she’s always been a major one. Alanis Morissette, and more recently Tove Lo. I love everything she touches.

Where do you find inspiration for your music?

Lyrically, my inspiration comes from life, and living it. Things I’ve been through, the ways I feel. I’m inspired a lot by color, alliteration and photography — my friend put me onto @virgingoldcult on Instagram and I come across weird, amazing content all the time there that ignites me. Also, my discover weekly playlist on Spotify. I usually listen to what other artists are creating on my way to sessions for inspiration and even just to study songwriting. As for artists go, I admire T Swift’s ability to make any song honestly relatable, and Sia is just GOLD when it comes to vocals and writing.

If your tune “Dum” were on a movie soundtrack, where do you think it would fit best?

The Hangover, for sure. The first one. Things get progressively “dum-er” and it’s Vegas, so I think it’s a perfect representation.

What bands are you obsessed with right now?

Pretty obsessed with Twenty One Pilots right now, “Gold” by Kiiara, and Flume.

What was it like working with Big Sean?

It was bomb. He’s a super humble guy. I was a fan of him already, so getting to work with him was a dream. It helped that he was actually really nice. I was so nervous to be the driver on the shoot day. I was like, what if I crash? I have Big Sean in my passenger seat! Too much pressure.

You’ve worked with a lot of amazing names from Sir Elton John to Bruno Mars, who have you been most star struck by? Any interesting stories?

It’s hilarious because the only person I got truly star struck by, wasn’t anyone I’ve worked with in music. I’m a huge Criminal Minds fan, and a couple years ago I saw Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) walking on Melrose while I was in LA paying at a parking meter and I actually froze in my steps. My jaw dropped and I followed him, probably creepishly, with my gaze as he passed me. I couldn’t even speak! I made it so awkward for him and the girl he was with, that he actually did that thing where you start humming something made up to distract from the situation you’re in.

What songs do you think you could make sick covers of?

Drake – “Too Good”

Beyonce – “Daddy Lessons”

Rihanna – “Love On The Brain”

What are your top five makeup products at the moment?

Smashbox powder contour palette

EPIC Mascara from Victoria Secret (which I’m told is discontinued but I refuse to accept… I’m milking mine)

Arbonne Perfecting Liquid Foundation (Golden Beige)

NARS bronzer

MAC “so chaude” matte lipstick

Major makeup tip for us?

Honestly, highlighting with a lighter shade of powder underneath your eyes and in your T-zone does serious wonders. I suffer from shiny unibrow, so it’s a must for me!

What is your current go to concert outfit?

Outfit: Ripped jeans and a t-shirt. If they’re high waisted, then a crop.

Shoes: Any kind of pump, I love pointy toe.

MU: Neutral eye, bronzed face and either a muted lip or an orangey red — always matte.

Hair vibe: 5-7 days dirty. the dirtier the more volume.

Sunnies: Sunglasses are my obsession, I love every style. Right now, I’m wearing circulars with a little cat ear extension in rose gold from Forever 21. And my favourite bags have tassels.

Who’s your celebrity crush?

Justin Timberlake. ALWAYS.

What do you hope to accomplish this year? Where do you think you’ll in a year?

I just want to continue to grow with every record I put out. Hopefully I’ll gain more ears to listen. I’ve spent a lot of time developing myself over the last few years as a writer and as an artist and I’m excited to share that.

In a year’s time, I hope to be on a world tour. HEY —  what’s the point of being a dreamer if it’s not big?

What are you most excited about for this EP?

I’m most excited to be putting music out again that isn’t just as a feature or as a writer on the track. ‘Gold Skies’ and ‘Love Me Loud’ gave me great exposure in a world that I was a complete stranger to and I’m really thankful for that, but I’m ready to share what I’ve been moulding and working on with past listeners and new ones. I’m more experimental with my instrument these days, so I’m excited to share that new side of me.

What’s next for you?

Definitely a tour in the works for the new year, and you can also expect an EP in 2017.
