Editorial: “Doll” Starring Jill & Doll
When did you discover your love for cooking?
My mom has involved me in the cooking process ever since I was a literal baby. She made being in the kitchen a fun and inviting experience. Even when I accidentally dropped two whole eggshells in cookie dough, she shrugged it off and said “These people need more protein”. They ended up being delicious with just a little crunch. I don’t necessarily love cooking, but I love cooking with my Mom. We spend a lot of time laughing, creating recipes, and bonding in the kitchen.
How has Mama Jill inspired you to be the best version of yourself?
My Mom has been my number-one supporter my entire life. She has always pushed me to be my full authentic self and encouraged anything I took interest in. That one week I took up sewing- She was there asking for a dress. The one month I thought I was a makeup artist- she was helping me book clients. There has never been a moment where my Mom wasn’t my cheerleader. Because of this, she’s created a judgment-free zone where I am open to being creative and letting my thoughts come out openly.
What is one easy dish every college girl should learn?
Build Your Own Bowls Girlies!!! There’s nothing better than a nice, big bowl of Nosh. Think Chipotle, but better, because you can choose EXACTLY what you want in it. My FAVORITE bowl combo is- Rice, Chicken, Zucchini, Brussels sprouts, Corn, Pickled Onions, Cranberries, Feta Cheese, Pita Crisps, and Chipotle Ranch. You Mix that bad boy up… REAL GOOD. And there ya have it, the perfect, substantial Girl Dinner.
What is one food item you can’t live without?
I absolutely cannot live without Chicken Nuggies. They have been my go-to comfort meal since I was a toddler. I don’t see myself ever getting tired of them.
Best budget meal for under $10?
My favorite budget meal is our chicken and broccoli pastry ring. My Mom whips up a little chicken and broccoli casserole, then wraps it inside a croissant dough. It tastes like home.
What are your holiday food favorites and how are you spending the holidays?
My favorite food around the holidays is a big pan of sweet potato casserole. It HAS to be the one with the toasty marshmallows on top and a nice nut compote. It just hits so different. Especially with a bite of turkey and cornbread together. I will be spending my holidays with a LARGE pan of this to myself, and my family watching me eat it. Thank you.
How are you disrupting the food culture via TikTok?
We are disrupting the food culture on TikTok through Comedy. Deep within our Mother-Daughter Banter and wild current events, you will find that a recipe has been delivered to you. These recipes are lawless and have no rules. It’s all measured with the heart.
Who are your chef sheroes?
I only have one Chef Shero, and It’s Mama Jill. Not only does Mama Jill chef it up in the kitchen with recipes from the heart. But she is also a cosmetologist, a DIY Queen, a cruise connoisseur, basically a therapist, a comedian, and A MOTHA.
If you and your mom were stranded on an island what meal are you cooking?
If my mom and I were stranded on an island, we would be SOL. We both HATE seafood, and I feel like that would be a pretty standard meal at Château de Deserted Island. We would have to resort to the leaves. Make a nice little salad, maybe toss some berries In there for flavor. But neither of us was a girl Scout, so we wouldn’t know what’s safe to eat. Yeah, my final answer- we’re SOL. SOS!
Top 5 restaurants you have ever been to?
My favorite quick restaurant is CAVA. I could eat it every day and never get tired of it.
The Mean Fiddler in NYC. Barbie-themed drinks (BOTTOMLESS)? Smashed Grilled Cheese? The Best Music Playlist? That’s the one.
I LOVE The Cheesecake Factory, but who doesn’t? There’s just something about their Chicken Cesar Salad that makes it the BEST. IYKYK. And a big slab of Hershey’s Cheesecake at the end? Come on.
Fogo De Chão is always an insane experience. The Pão de Queijo is my favorite.
The chokehold the Castle Restaurant in Disney had on me is insane. I cried like a baby the whole time. It was SO magical. The food was mediocre, but the experience was 10/10.
