Now Donald Trump Says He Thinks Abortion Should Stay Legal

Donald Trump added to his list of flip-flopping remarks on abortion on April 1 when trying to clarify his earlier statement that women who have them should be punished.

In fact, he pretty much reversed his stance entirely — it now appears he’s pro-choice. When asked about abortion by CBS, here’s what he had to say:

“The laws are set now on abortion and that’s the way they’re going to remain until they’re changed,” Trump said. “I would’ve preferred states’ rights,” he added. “I think it would’ve been better if it were up to the states. But right now, the laws are set. … At this moment, the laws are set. And I think we have to leave it that way.”

So yeah, pretty clearly a pro-choice position.

Meanwhile, Maureen Dowd at the New York Times dug deeper, asking Trump if during the 80s, when he had a rep as NYC’s quintessential fuckboy, he ever resorted to abortion. From her column:

…I had to ask: When he was a swinging bachelor in Manhattan, was he ever involved with anyone who had an abortion?

“Such an interesting question,” he said. “So what’s your next question?”

Hmmm. Such an interesting response, Donald! But we love that Maureen asked him — imagine if every pro-life politician had to go through his birth control history. That would be interesting indeed.
