Finish Your 90s Lewk With These Cheap Beauty Store Buys
Hoop earrings and scrunchies have been in every girl’s accessory drawers for decades. Now since they are making a big comeback, big retailers are no stranger to marking up the prices of items and accessories that are easily accessible to us via out local beauty supply store.
Big retailers want you to think that you will look cooler wearing their more expensive version rather than the beauty supply alternative. In all reality, it’s never about the cost of the accessory, it’s about how you wear it. Not to mention they’re all made with the same materials, so you essentially would be spending more for the same product.
Here is a compiled list of things that are listed on big retailers’ websites like Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, but that you can also find at your local beauty supply store for $5 or less. Your pockets don’t have to suffer in order for you to look cute and it’s always a plus to support local businesses.
1. Bamboo Earrings
Bamboo Earrings are probably one of the best statement jewelry pieces one could own. They go with almost every outfit and make you feel like a bad ass bitch. So it is no wonder that Urban Outfitters is selling them for $16.
There is no doubt that you can find these at your local beauty supply for $1.50 or even a website like Ali Express for cheap. There is no need to pay $16 for the same exact same quality and if they were to break, you probably wouldn’t hesitate to spend $1.50 over $16.
2. Bead Ponytail Holders
Nordstrom’s version of the ponytail holders with beads on them cost $10 for one. So if you’re trying a cute hairstyle and have two pigtails, you’re shelling out $20 just to hold your tails in place. Sorry Nordstrom, but its not worth it, especially when they get stretched out from over use.
And as you can tell by the intro to this article, you know where I’m going to tell you to get these… your beauty supply store, OF COURSE. Not only can you get more than one, but you can get a pack of these babies for WAY less than $10. A pack of 6 of these should cost you around $2.You can’t beat that.
3. Rhinestone Choker
This is a fairly new trend that retailers have been making a huge profit off. This rhinestone choker pictured below can be found on Forever 21’s website for $10.90. Now that’s not terrible, BUT I did buy one of these a few weeks ago from my local beauty supply store for $1 and it looks just as cute!

4. Hair Scrunchie
Bringing it back to those days in the second grade when we all used to have these to match every outfit. Well now, a pack of these can be found at Urban Outfitters for $12. Which is kind of ridiculous. These used to be and still are a dollar each at the beauty supply store or $5 for a pack of 5 or 6. That extra $7 can be used to buy basically everything else on this list, if you’re really feeling nostalgic and don’t already have these in your accessory drawers.
5. Fishnet Tights
Fishnet tights are the perfect pair of tights to have to make a look a bit more sexy or add some dimension to an outfit. While these retail at Forever 21 for $12, they can also be found at a beauty supply store for around $5.
For something that is very easily tearable, it is definitely best to choose the cheaper option. That way it won’t be so heartbreaking when your fave pair of fishnets tear because you’ll spend less that $10 replacing them.
The bandana has been around for centuries — specifically, the paisley design has been around since the 19th century. So it’s no wonder Urban Outfitters is profiting so heavily off of this timeless accessory. It retails at UO for $12 but can be bought at any beauty supply store for about $3.
Bottom line is, always check your local beauty supply store for accessories before you impulse buy at big retailers. It may look appealing to your eyes, but your pockets will thank you later when you choose the cheaper alternative. There is no shame in saving that money honey!
