Why Anna Wintour Was ‘Alone, Abandoned, Embarrassed’ in This Yeezy Show Pic
Vogue editor Anna Wintour is someone you’d think is never actually alone. Especially since she’s constantly referring to herself with the royal “we” instead of saying “I” like a normal person.
But at Kanye West’s Madison Square Garden show, she was “alone, abandoned, and embarrassed” — her words, not ours.
Anna swung by Seth Myers’ show last night to tell a charming anecdote about being abandoned in the crowd and then crying in the basement. So what led to Anna sitting completely by herself before the show, as seen in the photo above? Politeness!
“I got there very early as I tend to do,” she said. “I got there at about 1 o’clock in the afternoon … And they put me in this huge VIP section and I was the only person sitting there for about an hour. Alone, abandoned, embarrassed.”
But where was her personal assistant, her purse holder, her sunglass-polisher, her army of flunkies? Nowhere to be found.
Then, when Jay Z and the Kardashians finally arrived, Anna decided to continue her day of promptness by also leaving early. That’s when she “slid into the basement of Madison Square Garden” and got lost for a half hour.
“I was really in tears,” she told Seth, “and then a security guard came up to me and said, ‘Did your son play baseball for Collegiate?’ and I said yes, and he said, ‘Oh, I was his coach.'”
This saintly man is the one who finally helped Anna Wintour see the light of day once more. You can watch the whole conversation below, and particularly enjoy the moments when Seth Myers tries to butt in and crack jokes but Anna Wintour pretends he’s not talking and steamrolls right over him.
