CHER TO APPEAR AT 30TH EDITION OF AMFAR GALA CANNES
amfAR’s 30th edition of its Cannes gala will include a special musical moment with Cher, the legendary pop icon and Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning superstar. The amfAR Gala Cannes will be held during the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and advocacy. Since 1985, amfAR has invested more than $635 million in its programs and has awarded more than 3,800 grants to research teams worldwide.
“I have such wonderful memories of being invited to host one of the first amfAR events in Cannes by my friend Elizabeth Taylor. I am extremely proud to be returning for this event’s 30th anniversary, and to continue to support the incredible work of this organization. It will be a very special evening,” said Cher.
Since amfAR’s late Founding International Chairman Dame Elizabeth Taylor hosted the first amfAR Gala Cannes in 1993 at the Moulin de Mougins, the benefit has become the most coveted ticket of the festival and to date has raised $264 million for amfAR’s lifesaving AIDS research programs. Cher contributed to the early success of the gala by chairing it in 1996 along with Elizabeth Taylor. In 2015, Cher was honored with amfAR’s Award of Inspiration.
“We are thrilled to have Cher back in Cannes with us for the 30th edition of this event. Cher has been a steadfast supporter of amfAR and people living with HIV/AIDS since the early days of the epidemic and we could not be more proud to have her with us once again for what promises to be an unforgettable evening,” said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost.
The exclusive black-tie event, which has grown significantly since its inception, will take place at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc and will feature additional special performances, a live auction with one-of-a-kind luxury goods, experiences and art, and a fashion show of the world’s top designers, curated by long-time amfAR supporter Carine Roitfeld.
