How to Accessorize Your Summer Outfit Without Overheating
In the winter, your excuse for looking like a bum is that it’s too f-ing cold. In the summer, your excuse is that it’s too damn hot.
But, let’s be real, we don’t want our go-to summer lewk to be a boring sundress and gladiator sandals, do we?

There are ways to spice up a blah warm-weather getup without sweating your butt off on the subway, it all comes down to accessorizing properly. Instead of buying a whole new wardrobe for summer ’17, just buy some awesome accessories.
Besides, all the trends are being recycled anyways.
1. Body Chains
Like jewelry, but less of a cherry on top and more another aspect of the outfit. A body chain can make a sports bra suddenly look chic, and can make you in your shift dress stand out from being just another basic.
The best part? They’re inexpensive, and you can buy them on Amazon if you want. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend spending too much on them, because they’re prone to break no matter how much you spend on them, and although sometimes they’re fixable, sometimes they’re not.

2. Harnesses
They’re not quite as light as body chains, but they’re still way better than throwing on a leather jacket. Plus they can make a boho summer outfit into something a little more edgy. If you’re not into rocking leather in the summertime, lots of brands sell harnesses that are simply elastic.
3. Kimonos
You know how a cool jacket can immediately amp up the fashion factor of a basic tank and jeans? Well, unfortunately, a jacket in the 90 degree NYC heat will damn near kill you. But sometimes you need a little somethin’ somethin’ to throw on top of your bra-top for the subway, or you just need another layer to make the lewk. Enter kimonos. They’re light, breezy, and v trendy right now.

4. Statement Sunnies
There’s a reason why bloggers always accessorize with a cool pair of sunglasses, because they take an everyday lewk from frump to fab real quick. They also protect your eyes from the sun, which is always a plus. A classic black designer pair is cool and all, but sunglasses are getting cray this season, and a mirrored pair or brightly colored frames will make all your followers stop in their tracks.
5. Anything Mesh
Fishnet being trendy is honestly such a blessing. You can literally throw a fishnet dress on top of your bra and panties and call it a lewk. You can also throw a mesh top on, or fishnet tights with your jean shorts, and suddenly have a way cooler outfit than you did ten minutes ago – while still feeling cool temperature-wise.
6. A Killer Bag
Normally, I’m not one to give a fuck about purses. They’re kind of boring, and once you find a good one it’s easy to wear it with every outfit. But, if there’s anytime to rock a ridiculously shaped or patterned handbag, it’s summer. It’ll make your boring, amorphous outfit note-worthy. And no matter the weather, you probably have to bring a bag around, might as well make it flamingo shaped.
