Keyvitup and the Confidence of a New Generation of K-pop

K-pop has evolved from a regional phenomenon into a central force in global pop culture. Through high-level performances, striking visual identities, and fan communities that transcend borders, South Korean music has secured its place in conversations about music, fashion, and lifestyle. In an industry where new groups emerge constantly, building a distinctive identity is just as important as winning over an audience. It is in this landscape that Keyvitup is beginning to write its story.

Comprising Taehwan, Hyunmin, Sena, Jaein, and Rukia, the boy group from iNKODE Entertainment debuted on April 8, 2026, with a self-titled EP. The debut also marks a special chapter for Kim Jae-joong, the artist known for his career with JYJ, who serves as the producer of the first boy group of his career. Under the guidance of a name with extensive experience and a significant presence in the industry, the five members face the challenge of turning expectations into a consistent artistic identity.

In their conversation with Galore Magazine, confidence emerges as one of the pillars of this journey. For the group, their debut project serves as an introduction to who they are, both individually and as a team. Rather than simply looking to external influences, their intention is to allow the members’ different personalities to contribute to a collective identity. “No matter what, we need to have confidence in what we have so that the audience can understand exactly what we want to convey,” they explain.

This pursuit of authenticity is also reflected onstage. In a genre known for elaborate choreography and visually precise performances, Keyvitup highlights the strength of its live shows, featuring handheld microphones and vocals from the members themselves. “I believe our biggest advantage is that we can each do our part individually and deliver everything live,” they explain. The goal is to turn each performance into a space for personal expression, where technique, stage presence, and confidence complement one another.

Kim Jae-joong’s influence also plays an important role in their journey. Working with an artist who has helped shape different chapters in K-pop history represents both an opportunity to learn and a responsibility. The members acknowledge that the experience brought pressure, but it also helped them develop the confidence needed to present themselves to the public. “There was a lot of pressure, but we managed to overcome it. As we grew, we were able to show our identity and self-confidence more securely to a wider audience,” they share. Now, they hope to repay the trust placed in them by achieving even greater results.

Musically, the group draws on hip-hop as one of its main influences, particularly in the way it shapes attitude and stage presence. At the same time, the members strive to preserve each person’s individuality without limiting themselves to a formula. “While preparing this album, instead of comparing ourselves to other people, we tried to express our own colors and showcase each member’s diversity. I hope you can see that we all worked together to create this result.” This combination of shared influences and individuality is part of what they want to communicate as they take their first steps in the industry.

And Keyvitup’s horizons extend beyond South Korea. During the interview, the members expressed their excitement about the possibility of meeting Latin American fans and performing in South America. When asked about the prospect, they were straightforward: “We really want to do that.” Their desire to connect with audiences in the region reflects their willingness to build relationships that go beyond screens and reach new audiences through music and live performances.

In an industry driven by constant novelty, Keyvitup is betting on confidence as its starting point, the strength of live performances as its distinguishing feature, and the diversity of its members as an essential part of its identity. Their debut is only the first chapter of a journey that still has much to reveal. Keyvitup is definitely a group to watch: if their ambition and energy are any indication, the next chapters promise plenty of exciting developments. The group will make its comeback in late November with new music.
