Ninet Tayab Is Our Fave Israeli Rock Babe
Ninet Tayeb is a Jerusalem firecracker with the voice of a rock goddess. Making her way through the music industry in LA, Ninet is showing us her world through the story telling in her songs and her spunky personality and style.
P.S. we can’t stop listening to her tiny desk performance on NPR, and we’re pretty sure you’ll love it too 😉
What do you do?
I’m a musician, singer, and songwriter currently based in LA!
Where are you from? How do you think that has influenced your sound and vision as an artist?
I’m from Israel. You can hear Israel in every beat of my music. Of course every place has its dark/light side. I think people in my country are very straightforward, happy, brazen and sensitive. I believe my music sounds exactly like that.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from observing people and nature. From anger and pain, night and moonlight, books and daydreaming.
What’s the normal routine for your writing process?
It really depends on my mood. I can grab a guitar and play the melody I hear in my head or I can start from a drum loop that I create, then from there, it’s a whole different tune.
Is there a story behind your most recent track? How would you describe the tone/vibe/lyrics?
The story behind Elinor is about a girl I met in a mental hospital while visiting there. I wanted to get her out of there, but I couldn’t. In reaction to that and my inability to let her out, I wrote a song.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my next album and I’ve just started an acoustic residency at Hotel Cafe.
What artists would you love to collaborate with?
PJ Harvey, Josh Homme, Alex Turner, Portishead, Chris Cornell, Beck and the list goes on and on.
Tell us about your dream tour. What cities would you hit?
My dream tour would probably take at least 6 months. I’d hit Japan, England, Germany, South America, Brazil, Australia, and of course Israel. Let’s start from that 🙂
Any beauty products you’re living for?
I LOVE Dermalogica’s microfoliant, red lipstick called Diva by Mac, the perfect Star make up by Dior, and the red eye pencil Foxy Lady by Mac.
What do you do in your spare time? Any hobbies?
I love to stare at the sky, to read a lot, and listen to new music. My current obsession is a band called Have A Nice Life (isn’t it a perfect name?).
Where can we find your work online?
Anywhere you can buy or stream music (iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Pandora etc), my website (www.ninetayeb.com), and of course Facebook (@ninetayebOfficial), Instagram (@n.tayeb), and YouTube (@NinetTayebOfficial)
