2025 Met Gala “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” Is A Love Letter To Black American Culture
Black history is American history and this year’s theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is a love letter to Black American culture and Black men specifically. Stars throughout Hollywood came to represent the hottest American brands in fashion’s biggest night of the year. The Silk and Sound Choir, which features a 20 member all Black male ensemble, started off the night with the iconic song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
This year’s co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City included the one and only Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, LeBron James & Colman Domingo. The dress code, “Tailored For You” encouraged guests to present their personalized interpretations of classic tailoring, highlighting individuality while portraying and representing Black sartorial style and excellence.
In a time where our political climate is advocating to deny Black Americans impact on American culture and society, this year‘s Met Gala theme delved into how Black individuals have utilized fashion—particularly tailored menswear—as a means of self-expression, resistance, and identity formation across the African diaspora. Let’s get into some of the hottest looks this year. We want to know which celebrity and designer best represented this year‘s theme and who should step it up for next year.
