Disney Channel actress-singer Zendaya is reportedly heading to the big screen with a new role as character in an upcoming Spiderman remake. People are calling it a lead and a “key role” but based on the facts it’s unclear how big the role will actually be. Either way though, this is awesome news for Zendaya.
Deadline reported the scoop, divulging that the Sony/Marvel project is to be directed by Jon Watts, and will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Zendaya is set to play a character named Michelle. The comic book romance has always centered mainly around Mary-Jane, but there actually is a character with the same name as Zendaya’s character in the stories, a Michele (different spelling) who Peter Parker has a one night stand with.
Zendaya, 19, has been making waves recently for somehow looking good with a mullet, joining CoverGirl as a brand ambassador, and dropping “Something New,” a track that samples TLC’s “Creep” and has us pumped for her upcoming album. The buzzing popstar has been in the spotlight for a while, but it’s nice to see her step into a role outside of Disney Channel shows and tabloids.
