Slim Soledad’s Music Is About Navigating Uncharted Territory

When it comes to pushing boundaries through art, Slim Soledad can tell you all about that. From creating unique DJ sets to an entire project of her own, there’s not much she can’t do when her mind is set. We chatted with Slim Soleded to learn about her musical process and journey, along with what fans can expect from her next.

Talk to us about your music and how it disrupts the Techno genre?

My music feels like a way of sitting down with myself and letting everything out. Every fear, every high, every low. Sometimes it’s messy, but in a beautiful way. It’s like a wave, constantly moving, pulling you back into moments of melancholy, fear, or doubt, and then pushing you forward into joy, strength, and lightness. And sometimes, all of that happens at the same time, like this chaos that somehow makes sense.

Growing up in Brazil, I felt everything so deeply, and moving around added even more layers to that. My sound reflects that crossing of emotions: the moments when you’re breaking and healing all at once. That’s what I want to give people a sound that feels real, raw, and alive.

What advice would you give to yourself at 16-years-old?

I know it sounds cliché, but I’d tell my 16-year-old self to be patient. Growing takes time, and you don’t have to have everything figured out so soon. I’d remind myself that it’s okay to feel lost sometimes, especially coming from Brazil, where being an the artist feels like an uphill battle.

There’s this pressure to survive, to prove yourself, and it can be so overwhelming. But I’d say: take a breath. Be patient with yourself, with the process, and don’t give up. What’s meant for you will come, even if it takes longer than you thought. Keep going, even when it feels impossible. You’re stronger than you realize.

What song inspired you to want to pursue music seriously?

I can’t remember the exact song, but it was definitely during my childhood, when the Mexican telenovela Rebelde was airing in Brazil. Everyone was crazy about RBD back then, and I was no different!

I remember the day my mom came home from work with one of their live concert DVDs and she gave it to me and the other kids in the house as a gift. From the moment I watched it, I was obsessed.

Seeing them perform on stage, the music, the energy of the crowd, was magnetic. That was my first real moment of realizing how powerful music could be. After that, I started reading the novels and immersing myself even more in their world.

It planted this idea in my mind: I didn’t just want to listen to music, I wanted to make it, to feel that connection, that energy. RBD was definitely my first inspiration, and from then on, the dream of being an artist and musician never left me.

Who are your heroes?

My heroes are women who live life on their own terms, speaking their truth, doing what they love, and shining fearlessly. I have so many “sheroes”, but without a doubt, my biggest inspirations are my grandma and my mom. They’ve shown me what strength, grace, and resilience look like. Of course, there are many others, but these two will always be my greatest sheroes.

What’s your music selection process for your DJ sets?

I usually start with a pre-selection, songs I’ve been listening to during the week, tracks my friends have shared with me, or even unreleased music and my own demos. But honestly, it all depends on the vibe.

That’s why I like to get to the party early, to feel the crowd and understand the energy before deciding which direction to take. As for staple songs, there are definitely tracks that seem to follow me everywhere, timeless sounds that I always come back to because they just feel right, no matter the moment.

What are your fave parties to attend in Brazil?

My favorite parties in Brazil? I have to start with my own, Chernobyl. It’s such a special project for me, and it means so much to see people connecting through it. Then there are others in my circle like Buero, Mamba Negra, and BATEKOO, which are all incredible.

Outside of São Paulo, I love parties like Arena, Cadela SoundSystem and Horny for how they bring people together in different ways. And of course, there’s the iconic street parties, Baile Funk and those outdoor gatherings that feel so alive and raw. They’re such a big part of the Brazilian experience.

Let’s talk about your debut EP, “Space Manual For Those Who Cannot Swim”. What was the inspiration behind this project?

The inspiration for “Space Manual for Those Who Cannot Swim” comes from this dream of exploring the galaxy, a trip through space, but also through emotions and challenges. I imagined the tracks like levels in a video game, each phase getting harder, like life itself.

The EP draws on a mix of references that shaped me: video games, futuristic landscapes, sounds inspired by Drexciya, and the mystery of planets and life in other atmospheres. It’s about navigating uncharted territory, both literally and emotionally.

The title reflects my own reality too, I can’t swim, haha. And that feeling of being out of your depth inspired the concept of creating a manual for navigating the unknown. It’s both a personal journey and something I hope listeners can connect to, embracing their own challenges while dreaming of something bigger.

From all the festivals you’ve DJ’ed at around the world, which city has been your favorite?

I have so much love for so many cities I’ve played in, and each one holds a special memory. But if I had to choose, São Paulo has to be the most magical for me. Growing up there, it’s not just a city, it’s home.

There’s this unique energy and playing in a place so deeply connected to my roots brings emotions that are hard to put into words. It’s where everything started for me, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

How do you manage your mental health?

The first and most important thing for me is sleep. I won’t compromise on that. I’ve also learned to take days off when I can, whether it’s to treat myself, eat well, or just recharge. Therapy is another big one; it’s such a valuable tool to stay grounded.

But honestly, naps are my secret weapon! I’m all about sneaking in rest whenever I can. Without it, I get grumpy, it’s just how I am. So yeah, I’m officially a nap queen, and that’s how I keep my balance amidst all the energy of parties and DJing.

The next steps on this journey are so exciting for me. I’m currently gearing up for a tour in Brazil, which feels really special because it’s such a meaningful part of my roots and my story. At the same time, I’m pouring my energy into my LP for 2025. This project is pushing me creatively, and I can’t wait to share what I’m working on.

Beyond that, I’m dreaming big! I would love to take my music to new places like the U.S., Australia, and Asia. Connecting with audiences around the world is what keeps me inspired, and I’m ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead while staying grounded with my friends, family, and the people who’ve supported me since day one.
