[PREMIERE]: Molly Marlette’s New Music Video for ‘Do Me A Favor’

If you’re easily romanced by the Hollywood that once was, get excited for the mix of modern-synth pop and old Hollywood nostalgia that singer/songwriter Molly Marlette is bringing our way with her new single, “Do Me A Favor.”

With her perfect cat eyeliner and dark lips, Molly is quite possibly our new #fashiongoals it-girl in this all-white video shot literally inside a work of art: the old Sunset Pacific Motel painted all white (including its palm trees) by French artist Vincent Lamouroux, in Molly’s hometown of Los Angeles.

Galore has the exclusive debut of her new music video for “Do Me A Favor” which brings a taste of 80’s growling synth music to your ears with a dash of monochrome eye candy for your eyes.

Take a peep at the radical video, let her technicolor feels wash over you and then head over to iTunes (or Amazon) to preorder the music, which is out Friday, August 5th! Check out our Q&A with Miss Marlette herself below.

First of all, we need the origin story — where did you come from? How did you realize you could make music?

I grew up in L.A. doing musical theatre and acting. I wanted to be Judy Garland when I was six. TBH I still do.

Galore: Where did the inspiration for the song “Do Me A Favor” come from? Is it about anyone specifically or a specific situation?

It was about a person I was falling for at a time when I had really high anxiety, so I was very nervous about it. But on some days it felt like a love song to my ambitions.

Where did the inspiration for the video for “Do Me A Favor” come from? Can you talk about the all white motif and some of the locations? I noticed you shot at the Bates Motel on Sunset that was painted all white…. Can you talk about shooting there and what that was like?

Yes, I decided to have the video be a canvas until the end. I have felt that way often whether I was looking to book a part or make my music. Sometimes you don’t feel like you’re allowed to come alive until you feel more deserving or are permitted to. And that’s not true. I remember feeling like I had to be this palette as a kid. It was an interesting constraint for a weirdo like me. I feel like there’s this pressure, especially for women, to be that canvas.

What are some of your influences? If you were to describe your sound, like Cyndi Lauper meets Guitar metal, what would it be? If you were to tell someone about your music that hasn’t heard it – how would you want it described?

Someone once told me it’s Marilyn Monroe joins M83. I’m into that. I joke that my look is “Old Hollywood in the Space Future,” so maybe that works too.

Do you think it’s easier to be an artist in the day and age of digital music and Spotify? Do you think it’s harder to connect with people in terms of getting the music out there?

I think it’s easier to connect with human beings. I don’t know that overall it’s easier.

Galore: If “Do Me A Favor” were on a movie soundtrack, set to a specific scene maybe, what would it be and why? What is it about? Is it an anthem or a party song?

Molly: It’s that moment when you’re very excited about something but nothing’s certain yet. A neurotic anthem.

If you could play an acoustic show like MTV Unplugged, what songs would you cover?

“Baby One More Time” and “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.”

Can you tell us something fun about Theodore, your pomeranian? How often do you have to dye his tail?

He can be found winking to Simon & Garfunkel on Jess Rona’s glorious Instagram @jessronagrooming. Every few months Jess touches up the blue. He’s lucky it lasts so long for him.

Can you talk about your partnership with Limecrime?

I was in the 2 Moods campaign and Doe (Deere, Creator of Limecrime) had me wear a two tone wig and wink a lot. 🙂 It was really fun to be a part of that. I love the product and the packaging.

What’s next for you? Is there an upcoming tour?

Recording more music and making more videos. Some really exciting collaborations and then tour.

Where can we find out more about you? Do you have a snapchat so we can follow along?

I’m pretty much @mollymarlette on everything. Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and Fashion Tap. Stay tuned. 😉
