FEATURE INTERVIEW:

Talk to us about how you began your fashion journey.

Ever since I was a kid, I loved playing dress-up with my siblings’ clothes. I wasn’t confident enough to try the clothes on myself, but I found joy in styling others and helping them feel bold. As I got older, I applied that same mindset to my own style, realizing that the pieces I used to shy away from were the ones that made me feel most confident. Now, I live by the idea that the weirder or more unexpected the outfit, the better—it’s all about self-expression and pushing boundaries.

What is your relationship with Doja Cat now?

The whole situation was definitely messy, but I appreciate that she took the time to clear the air and my name. She was genuinely apologetic, and I let her know that I understood where she was coming from. We’ve both moved forward with respect, and we continue to support each other. I wish her nothing but the best with her new album.

Since people may know you as “Musty Boy,” tell us your favorite fragrance.

I’ve always loved fragrance, so this is a great question. People constantly tell me how good I smell, so it was ironic how everything unfolded. I start with Acqua de Gio for a fresh, masculine base—it has the perfect touch of citrus, which leaves a clean scent. Then I layer it with Ralph Lauren Romance Intense to add a bit of sultry sweetness. Together, they create a really unique and irresistible mix. Fun fact: the conversation with Doja that night started because she commented on how good I smelled.

What inspires you at the moment?

Spontaneity inspires me, embracing the idea that there’s no “right” way to do things or one specific place I need to be. Simply existing inspires me. Lately, solo travel has played a big role. Taking each day moment by moment has expanded my perspective. Experiencing new cultures on my own has also pushed me to see the world and myself differently, adding more depth, curiosity, and intention to my work. I just got back from Barcelona, and I’m already feeling more creative.

Tell us about your latest collection.

This collection marks a new era for me. In the past, I’ve tapped into nostalgic styles—especially Y2K-inspired looks—but now I’m also exploring more futuristic elements. I want to mix the familiar with the unexpected, blending past and future in a way that still feels true to me. The collection features a variety of silhouettes—fitted tops with looser bottoms, oversized pieces perfect for layering—and focuses on making neutral tones like black and brown feel bold through unique fits and designs. I’m still holding onto the core of some original pieces. You’ll see more of my classic OG baby tees, and of course, I’ll always continue my staple name necklace jewelry. It’s all about pushing things forward while staying grounded in my roots.

What is one fashion trend you hate at the moment?

Honestly, I think almost anything can look good if styled right, but skinny jeans have never really been my thing. I’m all about interesting silhouettes, and skinny jeans feel tricky to work with. Maybe I’ll give them a shot sometime—who knows haha!

Where can we shop your collection?

I started my business about four years ago while I was still in college, making custom jewelry. Since then, it’s evolved to include clothing too. You can find all my current and future collections at Boyvirgo.com.

What is next for you?

I’m excited to continue daily vlogging on TikTok, sharing my journey as I grow as a person, fashion designer, and entrepreneur. Solo traveling around the world will keep inspiring me to think bigger and get creative. This year is my fashion era, and I’m diving in full force—bringing my followers along every step of the way!
