Dominican Singer Letón Pé Takes Pride In Creating Authentic Music
Singer, songwriter and actress Letón Pé has created a lane for herself by creating authentic latin music that speaks to who she is as a person with love for her country Dominican Republic. We sat down with her to learn all about her music and what’s next for her!

TALK TO US ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO KEEP YOUR MUSIC AUTHENTIC.
When we talk about authenticity, I think it goes hand in hand with speaking from my truth, and that is what truly resonates with people. The connection and sense of belonging that I’ve been able to provide through my music comes from showing something genuine. I believe that everyone’s perception is unique enough to keep a fresh and innovative craft, the challenge lies precisely in knowing what your true perspective is.
HOW HAS YOUR HOME COUNTRY DR INSPIRED YOUR SOUND?
DR is this kind of place which, wherever you turn, you’ll see people shouting, music blasting from the morning, and lots of activity. I think that has inspired my music to always lean towards the frenetic, and it’s made just for having a good time.
WHAT ADVICE AS YOUR ABUELA GIVE YOU THAT YOU CHERISH?
The harsh truth is that both of my abuelas grew up in a very sexist era, so I wouldn’t take any advice from either of them, haha. But I do love the fact that my paternal grandma has always been a woman who likes to look immaculate and regal, even if she’s just at home. She loves dressing up just to please herself, and I’ve always enjoyed that. Sometimes we only want to wear our best clothes for special occasions, but what could be more special than enjoying a moment alone with yourself?
WHO ARE YOUR SHEROES?
Back then, Lady Gaga because she was my main inspiration to take the leap as singer and performer. And currently, my dog, because now as a performer she ensures my mental health doesn’t fall from a cliff (from choosing to be a singer/performer lol).
WHO WOULD BE YOUR ULTIMATE COLLABORATION FOR MUSIC?
Kaytranada.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR FASHION STYLE?
Elevated basic 90’s inspired.
HOW IS YOUR CREATIVITY DISRUPTING DEM BOW?
I don’t think I’m disrupting dembow specifically, although I did take some of its ingredients to create something distinctive and based on my influences, in this case, 90’s and specifically dembow. I call it, demvogue haha. Listen to “Cuando Se Va ir El Calor” for more insight!

WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE WHEN ON ROAD?
Water, water, water. Sleep as much as I can (although this one can get tough so I try to accomplish it beforehand), poquito alcohol and getting some cardio and yoga done (better if it is outdoors that way I can enjoy some vitamin d which is great for my mood and some “colorcito,” always with spf of course)!

My supergoop SPF, I use the ‘’PLAY’’ version, it gives me protection but with the GLOW.

“Cuando Se Va’ Ir El Calor” is a very unserious mindset. It is the result of simply knowing that life is meant to be enjoyed and taken lightly and if we were to complain about something, let it be through pleasure.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOT SUMMER PLANS?
I’ve already done a lot. I wrapped up opening for Monsieur Perine on some of their US tour stops. Literally just came back from the south of the Island (Bahia de las Aguilas) where you can find the most idyllic beach on the planet, and now I’m going to Sicily, what the hell?! Feeling super fab just by saying this.
CRAZIEST THING YOU PURCHASED RECENTLY AND WHY?
The truth? A trial membership on an adult content website where all the short films are directed by a woman. Haha. Playing with ways on how to nurture my sexuality helps a lot with creativity and craft. I don’t usually consume this type of content since they’re usually exposed through the male gaze and very far from what it really looks in reality but since these videos are more grounded, cinematographic and also directed by a woman, I had to give it a shot!
WHAT FASHION TREND YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH AT THE MOMENT?
Baggy shorts!!! They’re so cool, cute but also comfy.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN 2024?
2 concerts in DR and more music to come (collab included).
