K-POP GIRL GROUP ARTMS MUSIC IS AN EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY OF THE MOON
If you love K-Pop music but have never heard of hit making girl group ARTMS, I’m so excited to put you on to this amazing group of ladies. Hailing from South Korea, this band has recently released their debut album and are currently on the US leg of their world tour. Keep reading to learn a little more about Choerry, Heejin, Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Haseul!
FEATURE INTERVIEW:
How did your group begin? Tell us your story.
Kim Lip: We care deeply about our fans. That’s why the initial four of us came together to carry on activities, keeping the fans who were waiting and worried in mind. Eventually, HaSeul joined us, completing the current lineup of ARTMS.
What does ARTMS stand for and how did you all come up with the name?
HaSeul: ‘ARTMS’ is derived from Artemis, the goddess of the moon in Greek mythology. It’s also connected to NASA’s Artemis project, which aims for manned lunar exploration. ARTMS symbolizes our own journey of exploration and discovery of the moon.
What was it like for each of you growing up in South Korea? What is your fondest memory growing up there?
Choerry: From a young age, I traveled a lot with my family. Visiting various places and enjoying delicious food are my fondest memories.
Kim Lip: I used to live in a house with a yard. I was fascinated by the fruits and plants my grandmother grew. I have happy memories of sitting on a big rock with my sister and grandmother, cooling our feet in the water and chatting.
JinSoul: I had a menagerie of pets as a child, including dogs, hamsters, beetles, and even silkworms.
HeeJin: I’ve loved dancing since I was a child. I remember dancing to music in shops while walking with friends or while waiting at traffic lights, which sometimes embarrassed them!
HaSeul: Growing up in the countryside of Korea is my fondest memory. I prefer nature over the city, and getting to enjoy the green grass and fresh vegetables.
What has been one thing you each have learned about being in a girl group?
Choerry: As the oldest sister at home, I didn’t know how to interact with older sisters, but living with them has strengthened our bond. Now, I feel closer to them than anyone else. I’ve also learned to be more confident on stage and how to better take care of myself.
Kim Lip: I’ve learned a lot about consideration. Living in a group has taught me so much, and I feel like I’m growing up.
JinSoul: I’ve learned the importance of consideration and respect among members, and I’m figuring out the best ways to take care of myself.
HeeJin: It’s important to take good care of the people around me, especially the staff. Even on the toughest days, I’ve realized that the staff works just as hard, if not harder. Being an entertainer seems glamorous, but it’s the hard work of many people behind the scenes that truly makes it shine.
HaSeul: The biggest lesson from being in a girl group is teamwork. I’ve realized that there are goals we can only achieve together as a group of five. My existence is meaningful because of the group.
Let’s talk about your debut single “Virtual Angel”. Why was this song chosen to introduce your new group?
HeeJin: There were two title track candidates: one was “Virtual Angel,” and the other was a heavy, weighty song with a completely different feel. We decided through a vote, and “Virtual Angel” was chosen unanimously. As this was the start of ARTMS, we wanted to present a fresh feeling, and “Virtual Angel” fit the bill!
You all recently released your first album <Dall>. Talk to us about the process of creating this project and what each of your current favorite songs are on this project.
JinSoul: We spent a lot of time preparing this album. The company made an effort to incorporate the members’ opinions, allowing us to participate in songwriting, as well as in the concept and design aspects. My favorite song is “Butterfly Effect” because it has a grand and elegant feel.
You all are headlining your first US Tour this fall, talk to us about what fans can expect from this tour and what you all are most looking forward to.
Choerry: This is our first tour as ARTMS with all members together, and we have prepared amazing performances that match our great songs. I hope everyone is looking forward to it. In the past when we’ve been on overseas tours, our fans always gave us incredible support and enthusiasm, so I’m excited to experience that again.
If you all could collaborate with any American artists, who would it be?
HeeJin: Oh, there are so many to choose from, but if I have to pick, it would be Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande! I think they need no explanation, right? They’re simply the best.
What’s 1 beauty product each of you can’t live without?
Choerry: For me, it’s various skin ointments. When I get a skin breakout, I immediately apply the right ointment to calm it down quickly. That’s how I manage my skin.
Kim Lip: Eye makeup remover… I can’t stand having makeup on, so I remove it as soon as I get home.
JinSoul: Skincare products! I love makeup, but I’ve come to realize that good skin is essential, so I prioritize skincare.
HeeJin: Skincare essentials like lotion. My skin is very dry, so I need to apply it quickly after washing my face. Also, my leg massager! I carry it for long schedules; it makes a huge difference.
HaSeul: My must-have beauty item is eyeliner. I always wear eyeliner when doing my makeup, and without it, I’d rather go out with a bare face.
How would you all define your personal fashion style?
Choerry: I personally love cute and comfortable clothing, especially lace and skirts.
Kim Lip: Rainbow… I enjoy wearing a variety of styles.
JinSoul: I prefer neutral tones and subtle styles. Recently, I’ve been trying to diversify my wardrobe, but I still gravitate towards comfortable clothes.
HeeJin: My style varies greatly between casual and dressed-up days. Currently, I love the skirt layering trend! I often pair dresses with jeans. On dressed-up days, I use trending items a lot!
HaSeul: My fashion is simple and comfortable. I love wearing just jeans and a white T-shirt.
Outside of your upcoming tour, what else can we expect from ARTMS?
JinSoul: After the world tour, although there are no definite plans yet, I think we might come back with a new album or a fresh look! Also, there might be unexpected Gravity votes, so please look forward to that! In the meantime, we’ll continue to work hard and prepare to show you our best!
