Institut Français de la Mode Fashion Show
On Tuesday June 24th, 30 students from Institut Français de la Mode’s Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design program showcased their graduate collections to kick off Paris Fashion Week on the IFM campus. These collections, each made up of 6 accessorized looks, were selected from the 70 final-year student collections by a jury of professionals on the basis of their creative maturity, level of execution, proportions, volumes and coherence. They incorporate notions of sustainability, impact, inclusion, gender expression and innovation.
The Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design is a 3-year undergraduate program headed by Thierry Rondenet and Hervé Yvrenogeau and offered in French or English. It brings together a total of 250 students, 50% of whom are international. From the 2nd year onwards, students can choose to specialize in knitwear, creative pattern-making, image design, shoes or bags, expanding their creative scope while maximizing their employability. The BA in Fashion Design confers an accredited Bachelor’s degree (“grade de licence”, the highest level of academic recognition in France), enabling students to start their careers or to continue studying at Master’s level.
Pushed to experiment throughout their training, students acquire all of the creative and technical skills involved in the design, construction and pattern-making of a garment. Through courses and experiential workshops, they are introduced to sustainable practices and to 3D software – both for eco-design and for individualization. The articulation of a discourse, of which show notes are an example*, and humanities are also very specific to IFM’s curriculum.
A substantial need-based scholarship scheme, financed by the 36 companies of its Foundation, enables IFM to welcome all creative talents, whatever their financial situation. In a participative, multi-disciplinary approach, many students from other IFM programs have taken part in setting up this fashion show, occupying positions according to their course of study (backstage dresser, assistant seamstress, social media manager etc.).
The Bachelor of Arts show is supported by DEFI, which Institut Français de la Mode would like to thank, along with its main partners OBO, Titre Provisoire, Les Teintures de France, Make Up For Ever Academy and Real Campus by L’Oréal.
