If You Miss Old School Gwen Stefani, You’ll Love Symon’s New Single ‘Say’

Symon is pretty psyched right now. The bubbly young singer just released a video for her new single, “Say,” a song she co-wrote with Gino “Farrago” Barletta (also behind Daya’s hit song “Hide Away”). Symon was found and signed by Steve Zap of Artbeatz Entertainment and they are excited to introduce her work to the world.

Symon, who’s a native of Los Angeles, and reps her city hard — the 818 specifically — has been working towards her ambitions since a young age. She’s been writing and playing music since she was 8, and started a garage band with two brothers who lived on her block. While her peers were focused on football games and hanging out, she was writing and performing songs anywhere she could.

“I’ll never forget when I watched ‘Oops, I Did it Again,’ for the first time,” she says. “And then I became obsessed with TLC. I’m also obsessed with Gwen Stefani. Being a girl from Los Angeles, and seeing a girl from the OC just come from nothing and be a complete badass, like, making ska music, was just so important for me. That was my thing. And I always had this kind-of island thing going. Then when Gino and I got into the studio for the first time, we knew where this project was heading. We knew that the two of us together were kindred spirits, a total dream team.”

Symon is currently on a radio tour promoting her new single and performing shows this summer. Kid Kelly was the first person to add her single and back it on Sirius XM and Symon gushed about grateful for that. She has an EP that will be releasing this year and hopefully will get to collaborate with G-Eazy, whose work she tells me she’s really into right now.

Aside from her new video, she’s also excited to tell me about her favorite Mexican food spot in the Valley. “I’m going to take you there when I get back,” she said. “After I performed my single on iHeart radio, I celebrated with a bean and cheese burrito from Casa Vega. It was lit.”
