Destiny Jones Makes Organic Lip Gloss For Girls Who Get the Hustle
Destiny Jones is the 22-year-old New York-bred CEO behind Lipmatic, the lip gloss line that’s flattering on all skin tones and boasts organic and vegan ingredients. Besides asking Destiny how to design the perfect lip gloss, Galore interviewed the young mogul about what it’s like to run her own business and what inspired her to create the brand.
Why did you create Lipmatic?
My friends encouraged me to create a lip gloss line after growing tired of seeing shades on the shelves that didn’t particularly work well for me. They were sticky, and the shades often times didn’t work well for all skin tones.
How does being from Queens inspire you and the brand?
Queens brings about a different hustle. It’s in my blood, my walk and is the foundation for everything I do. I created Lipmatic with Queens in the forefront of my mind — the hustle bustle of the city, the sounds and pure energy of Queens. Lipmatic is for young women walking around the city in the 6 inch heels or Adidas. She’s cool, sporty and comfortable in her skin.
How do you think of names for the glosses?
The various shades are named after NYC staples and my favorite things throughout the city: Brooklyn Brownstone, Hell’s Kitchen, etc.
What’s next for the brand/what’s coming up?
Liquid lipstick and lipliners as well.
Where would you like to see the brand in the future?
I’d like to see Lipmatic at several retailers globally. Both clothing and makeup retailers. Stay tuned!
What’s a makeup product you can’t live without?
Lip gloss! I cannot leave the house without my lip gloss.

Dezzy J or Destiny Heights!
What are some beauty brands where you like what they’re doing?
I love Tarte and all of their products because they offer such a wide range of colors and shimmers. I also love that Tarte is completely vegan and cruelty free. That is very important for me.
What are some tips for some girls wanting to be young entrepreneurs?
Create a vision, make a plan and execute! It does get difficult but you can’t allow road blocks to deter you. If you want to be an entrepreneur, be ready to put in the work and have those late nights and early mornings.
Confession, do you wear makeup everyday?
I don’t wear makeup every day, but I always make sure I’m wearing eye lashes and lip gloss.
What does makeup mean to you?
Makeup enhances the natural beauty we’re already blessed with. I don’t think it’s takes much, as I believe it should always be natural!
