Do it for the culture: 5 braided styles for summer
As much as I love super long hair extensions, it’s damn near impossible to survive with them during the hot summer months.
I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with my hair without looking breaking the bank. So I’ve compiled this list of popping braided hairstyles that will be so dope for the summertime. Check it out below and let me know if you’ve tried these or plan to.
5. Braids with Beads
I know what you’re thinking, “I’m too grown to be wearing beads in my head.” But it’s a childhood style that has made a comeback and it actually looks cute and non-immature on adults. You don’t need a lot just a couple at the end of each braid or one at the start of it. It’s a very cute new trend.
4. Ghana Braids
I love Ghana braids, even with them showcasing my 5-head.
This is such a simple style that doesn’t cost much and you can do over and over without it getting old. There are so many ways to spice up this style like getting them in different variations number-wise or getting different braid sizes. Either way this is a classic braid style you can’t get caught slipping with.
3. Goddess/Faux Locs
Literally my hair goals. This is probably the most expensive style on this list, depending on where you live. Stylists are charging $150+ for this style, which is stressful lol.
Honestly, I’m sure it’s worth it because they last about two months so it’s definitely giving you you’re money’s worth. I love how some girls dress it up with different colors, beads and strings to their locs to make them pop.
3. Box Braids
Is another style on the pricer side but honestly I haven’t seen this style not look good on anyone’s who ever tried it.
It’s definitely a lot of braids and can be a little heavy but if you’re use to wearing extensions this won’t be any harder to manage. Box braids take a few hours to achieve but also can last you a good 2-3 months. Make sure to wash your scalp out with dry shampoo to keep your hair clean.
2. Lemonade Braids
When Lemonade came out last year, we were all dying over Bey’s visuals and hair.
It’s crazy that a year later this is one of the biggest trends this summer. This style is a cheaper alternative than some styles on the list. It really depends on who you can find to do this style because prices can range anywhere from $50-$150.
Adding color to your braids like Bey did is a cute way to stand out in the crowd.
1. Ponytail Braids
With all these styles listed above you can put it up in a bun or ponytail. It’s a simple way to add a little spice to your look.
I get tired of wearing my hair a certain way after a few weeks so I’m constantly changing my look, you can do the same with braids. Some people get their hair braided into a high ponytail, which is a trend I’ve been noticing more and more on Instagram or in person.
Since these braids are smaller it might run you a little more money, maybe around $100. Either way these are cheaper alternatives than extensions and are a dope way to do it for the culture this summer.
